Carlos Sainz has been really good for Williams Racing this year, winning them points this weekend in the F1 US GP Sprint. After both McLaren’s DNF in turn 1 on the Circuit of the Americas, Sainz was able to finish third. This is his second win in the last three races.

Sainz had a great couple races getting points in Singapore and even a podium at the F1 Azerbaijan GP. Alongside his teammate Alex Albon, they have managed to move Williams from the bottom of the grid to fifth in the Driver Championship. Williams hasn’t been this high in the rankings since 2017.

Sainz can win on all levels

Sainz winning the podium in Azerbaijan and the Sprint at the F1 US GP shows that he is a well-rounded Driver that should not be discounted. He takes this win as a standalone and believes he can win both the sprint and the race tomorrow. The Spaniard assured everyone that the F1 US GP is still up for grabs, and he plans on doing everything he can to get on the podium.

“Well, I can do both at the same time. And, yeah, we definitely… yeah, we had a solid race. We had a solid pace on their own.

The Williams driver paid attention to the Ferraris close on their heels and was able to keep them at bay the entire sprint. He feels the win is even better after good racing under pressure.

The Ferraris were quick behind, but I kept them under control. And we brought home the P3, which is… Yeah, tastes really good.”

A proud Williams driver

Williams has been doing better ahead of the F1 US GP and their success is largely attributed to the drivers getting a handle on their cars. Sainz denies that his confidence and handle on the car has increased. He believes that the previously results we’re just bad luck that prevented them from proving the cars capabilities. Clearly that luck has turned and hopefully will continue into the F1 US GP tomorrow.

“Nothing. We’re just getting a little bit more lucky and things stop happening to us. But I’ve had this pace all year. It’s just, for the first half of the year, I weren’t able to show it and to prove it. But now that things are running a lot smoother and I’m just doing everything that I was doing in the first half, it’s just, things are clicking.

The Spanish driver took none of the credit for his podium finish at the F1 US GP Sprint. He is just proud to show off the quality of the car he was given this year. His humble approach knows no bounds as he is still aware that the Williams car lacked pace compared to the front of the grid. Sainz is proud to be a strong competitor in 2025 ahead of the F1 US GP.

And, yeah, just happy to show what we can do as a team, what I can do. The car was great yesterday in [Qualifying] and today in the race. So, yeah, we lack a bit compared to these guys. Obviously, we cannot fight them, but we’re still in the mix. So it’s good to see.”
