Santino Ferrucci will miss today’s IndyCar race in Toronto after a big crash in Sunday morning warm-up.

Inside the final couple of minutes of the session, the AJ Foyt Racing driver lost the car in turn 7 as the extra boost from the hybrid led to a crash. Ferrucci explained it caught him out. He had been running in 3rd behind Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel.

He had already clouted the wall on the left hand side out of turn 7. A bit more damage was picked up as he found the tyre barriers at low speed in turn 8. The left front corner had been destroyed by the initial impact.

Santino Ferrucci was due to start from 23rd on the grid after a disappointing qualifying session in the IndyCar Toronto round, but his warm-up crash means it’s a DNS this time around. He was tied for P10 in the championship with teammate David Malukas heading into the race. It’s likely to be 12th after today providing Scott McLaughlin has any kind of decent race.

FOX reporter Bob Pockrass revealed on X that the driver of car number 14 has ice on his hand after the crash. His hand was not broken, however.
