Lance Stroll ended his 2025 Season with a hard-fought points finish for his team Aston Martin at the F1 2025 Abu Dhabi GP. The Canadian driver delivered a resilient performance at the Yas Marina Circuit, crossing the finish line in P9. He ultimately secured P10, gaining a valuable championship point for the team after post-race penalties were applied.
Strategic decisions and post-race classification at the F1 Abu Dhabi GP
Starting the F1 Abu Dhabi GP from P15, Stroll initially faced a setback, dropping two places to P17 at the start of the race. However, his resilience and the effective one-stop strategy allowed a significant recovery drive through the field.
This performance showed a slight improvement from his P14 result in the 2024 Abu Dhabi race, demonstrating his ability to maximize the car’s potential.
Speaking afterwards, the Aston Martin driver was in positive spirits. He summed up his afternoon by saying, “It was a good race and nice to pick up some points.” He acknowledged both his driving performance and the team’s choices.
However, the Canadian driver felt there was a missed opportunity for an even stronger race finish. He commented: “We pitted maybe 1 or 2 laps too late”, believing that P8 could have been achievable had they boxed earlier.
Race officials applied a five-second time penalty for an infringement during a defensive maneuver against Carlos Sainz’s Williams, which demoted Stroll from his impressive on-track P9 to P10.
Stroll on Aston Martin’s 2025 Competitiveness
Despite the positive race finish, Stroll remained honest about the team’s overall performance throughout the year. Aston Martin’s focus for the season was on fighting for higher positions, a goal that proved difficult at times.
“We haven’t been as competitive as we wanted to be this years as a team. We want to be fighting further up,” he stated, acknowledging the areas for improvement needed heading into the next season.
