Broc Feeney delivered an outstanding win in Race 6 of the 2026 Supercars Championship in Melbourne.

With two safety cars and only sixteen laps, Race 6 was one of the most dramatic races this season. Feeney narrowly held off a charging Brodie Kostecki. Behind them, Cam Waters narrowly secured third as Kai Allen had an overtaking masterclass.

Race 6 preview

After being delayed 20 minutes, the drivers were fired up for Race 6 of the Supercars Championship. Melbourne’s Albert Park has provided superb racing so far this weekend, but it was a controversial qualifying for Saturdays Race. After a dominant week, Brodie Kostecki looks to secure another win. However, Broc Feeney is on pole and will be looking to reclaim his Championship lead. Matthew Payne, who starts the race from seventh will be looking to secure his Championship lead and the Larry Perkins Trophy.

Carnage off the start

After a rocky qualifying session, Feeney led the field as the lights went out on Race 6 of the Australian Supercars Championship. Cameron was hot on his heels, as carnage occurred behind. Rylan Gray ended in the gravel of Turn 1, while the cars were three wide round the first few corners.

Championship leader, Matthew Payne picked up damage off the start, ending up with a triple puncture, pulling to the run off at Turn 4. BRT’s James Golding also picked up damage as he edged Payne into the wall coming out of Turn 2. Elsewhere, Zach Bates had some words for Cameron Hill over his radio after their incident.

The top three were separated by less than eight tenths, with Kostecki pressuring Cameron from third. Behind, Cooper Murray was spun heading into the second lap, his car beached in the gravel. As Brown tried to go down the inside of Jack Le Brocq, the Matt Stone Racing driver was forced into Murray’s side. The safety car was brought out, keeping the field at bay for four laps.

Green flag in Melbourne

On Lap 6, the flags were green once more in Race 6. Feeney got a quick jump on the field but Cameron and Kostecki were quick to close the gap. Just half a second sparest the top three as Kostecki went down the inside of Cameron in Turn 11.

Behind them, Kai Allen was once again making moves. The Penrite driver, who started the race in 13th, was up to sixth after only four clean racing laps. On Lap 7, Thomas Randle was spun and forced into the barriers bringing out a second Safety Car of the race. With severe steering damage, Randle was forced to retire from the race. Ryan Wood picked up a 30 second time penalty for forcing the Tickford driver off.

9 laps to go in Race 6 at the Supercars Melbourne round

After two safety car periods, Supercars was back racing once more. This time, Feeney took his time on the restart, flying down the main straight. Kostecki was all over his bumper. Cam Waters was all over Cameron. After some push and shove, Waters was able to get around Cameron in the final corners of the lap.

Less than a lap later, Brown forced Cameron off track at Turn 4, with both drivers dropping to the back of the field. While his qualifying pace has been strong, this is the third straight race where Cameron has ended up down the field. Both drivers were forced into the pits with damage. Brown copped a 30 second post race time penalty for the collision.

On Lap 12, Feeney cut over the grass allowing Kostecki to catch up. With the two in a fierce battle, Waters was able close the gap to less than half a second. With the laps ticking down, Kai Allen joined the fight from fourth.

Chaos until the end

With the tyre grip starting to fade, the front runners started to slide over the track. On the penultimate lap, Allen passed Waters before the Tickford driver reposed on the following corner. Ahead of them, Feeney was able to hold off Kostecki through the final lap of the race.

With less than a second separating the top four, it was a Ford Mustang masterclass. Feeney’s victory in Race 6 allows him to retake the lead of the Supercars Championship. Following the race, Kostecki extends his lead on this weekend’s Larry Perkins Trophy and moves up to second in the Championship. Waters secured his second podium of the season.

Off the podium, Allen just missed out on his first podium of the season, while David Reynolds jumped up to seventh after qualifying 20th. With Race 7 still to come on tomorrow, the field will be edging to pick up some final points in the 2026 Melbourne SuperSprint.

The Australian Supercars Championship continues with Race 7 on Sunday at 10:10am AEDT.
