The 2025 F1 Academy Championship is approaching the halfway point of the season. With this year’s grid made up of a combination of new and returning drivers, it’s shaping up to be a good fight!
Each round hosts two races—the first race being a top-8 reverse grid, and the second being set by qualifying. In Miami, the rain caused havoc, and the second race for the weekend was cancelled. Consequently, full points for a regular weekend were not available. A third race has been added to the Canadian GP schedule, in replacement of Miami’s Race 2.
After Race 2 in Canada, we will officially be halfway through the 2025 races in F1 Academy and will see who continues to dominate the first half.
Maya Weug – MP Motorsport supported by Scuderia Ferrari

Maya Weug is in her final year of F1 Academy, both years supported by Scuderia Ferrari. The Dutch driver currently leads the championship standings after finishing 3rd in them last season. After a successful campaign with PREMA Racing last season, she has switched to MP Motorsport, showing high potential.
Landing in Shanghai for Round 1, Weug found herself in pole position for Race 2. During Race 1, she fought her way through the reverse grid to finish in P3. The final race of the weekend saw a P2 finish, rounding out a successful weekend.
Round 2 was hosted at Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia, and with a P3 in qualifying, Weug was starting 6th for Race 1. She fought her way up and finished in P2, going on to win Race 2. Round 3 in Miami was cut short, with Race 2 cancelled due to rain, while Weug was set to start 10th. Race 1 saw a successful fight to the front, narrowly missing the podium, with P4.
Weug goes into Round 4 in Canada with 64 points.
Doriane Pin – PREMA Racing supported by Mercedes

Similarly to her rival Weug, this is Pin’s second year in the series, continuing her partnership with Mercedes. She currently sits in 2nd in the standings—coincidentally, the same position she finished in last year.
Shanghai in Round 1 was largely successful for the Frenchwoman, qualifying 2nd for Race 2, starting 7th for Race 1. After her 2nd-place start for Race 2, she fought her way to the win, landing on the top step of the podium.
The following round in Jeddah saw similar success. Pin put her PREMA Racing machinery into P2 in qualifying. She started P7 once again in Race 1 and managed to push up into 4th. The final race of the round saw her lose position, dropping down to 2nd, which is where she crossed the finish line.
Pin qualified P3 in Round 3 at Miami, fighting her way from 6th on the grid to the win in Race 1’s reverse grid. Although set to start 3rd in Race 2, the second race was cancelled, later postponed to be held in Canada.
Pin goes into Round 4 in Canada a single point behind Weug, with 63 points.
Chloe Chambers – Campos Racing supported by Red Bull Ford

Much like the two drivers ahead of her in the standings, this is also Chambers’ second year in the series. Unlike the two ahead of her, the F1 team backing her has changed; she’s gone from Haas last year to Red Bull Ford this year.
Last season, Chambers finished in a respectable P6 in the standings, although she currently sits in P3, showing potential to stay. During Round 1 in Shanghai, the American found herself qualifying in 4th, meaning she’d be starting Race 1 from 5th. She managed to climb three places in Race 1, finishing in 2nd, and went on to move up a place in Race 2, finishing 3rd.
In Jeddah for Round 2, Chambers put her Campos Racing machinery on pole position. From here, she started Race 1 in P8, only managing to make one place and finish 7th. Race 2 was also tough, dropping a position to finish in 2nd—still standing on the podium.
The most recent round in Miami saw Chambers on pole once again, and after starting from 8th, she took the final step on the podium. She goes into Round 4 with 55 points.
Alisha Palmowski – Campos Racing supported by Red Bull

Unlike the three drivers above her in the standings, Palmowski made her F1 Academy debut this season. She drives for Campos Racing, with support from Red Bull. She currently sits 4th in the standings, making her the leading rookie.
Palmowski started her season with a P5 in Shanghai’s qualifying. After starting in 4th for Race 1, she climbed the field and took the chequered flag first. Shocking everyone, a rookie won on debut. Unfortunately for the Brit, Race 2 didn’t go as well for her. Starting from 5th, she lost a place to finish in 6th.
Heading into Round 2 in Jeddah, Palmowski qualified P4. Race 1 around the Jeddah Corniche Circuit saw the Brit able to drive from 5th to 3rd, taking the final podium position. Race 2 was positive for her also, maintaining position and finishing where she started—in 4th.
Her best qualifying came in Round 3 in Miami, where she qualified 2nd and went on to climb from 7th to 2nd in Race 1. She goes into Canada—Round 4—with 44 points.
