Toyota GAZOO Racing New Zealand has strengthened its push towards carbon-neutral motorsport by confirming a new synthetic fuel supplier for the 2026 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy. The decision reinforces the organisation’s long-term sustainability strategy as the championship approaches its 21st consecutive season.

FU3L partnership for the 2026 Championship

From January, a group of rising international single-seater drivers, along with well-known competitors from other areas of motorsport, will race Toyota FT60 cars running only on FU3L synthetic biofuel. The championship will put sustainable technology at the centre of one of the world’s leading junior single-seater series.

At the core of the series, the Toyota FT60 chassis will continue to offer equal machinery for six teams. The championship remains a well-known route to top-level motorsport, combining consistent technical rules with close, competitive racing.

Crucially, FU3L operates as a synthetic liquid fuels company making a strong global impact through advanced, drop-in formulations compatible with existing engines and infrastructure. The company tests every fuel extensively around the world to ensure performance, reliability and environmental integrity before deployment.

Importantly, FU3L synthesises its advanced biofuels from second-generation biomass feedstocks, primarily sourced from agricultural and forestry residues. These waste-based materials remain completely independent of food and feed supply chains. During combustion, the CO₂ released aligns with the biogenic carbon absorbed during biomass growth, creating a near-closed carbon cycle and delivering a substantially lower greenhouse gas footprint than conventional fossil fuels.

Already, FU3L has demonstrated its products across road transport, racing, aviation, maritime and industrial applications. The company structures its portfolio into DRV3, RAC3, HRZ3N and XP3RT product lines, each featuring tailored formulations designed to meet specific performance demands and sustainability objectives while complying with relevant fuel specifications.

Aiming for a carbon neutral future

Accordingly, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing New Zealand views the move as a crucial moment for its premier championship. “We have been focussed on thriving towards a carbon neutral and sustainable motorsport programme for some time now,” explained Nicolas Caillol, TGRNZ’s Manager of Motorsport. “That in itself is not news, but the switch to FU3L synthetic biofuels for our premier championship is highly significant as we believe this is the best solution available in global motorsport today.”

Ultimately, the ambition extends well beyond a single series. “Our goal is carbon neutrality with all three of our domestic racing categories and to set new standards for environmentally conscious motorsport not just in New Zealand, but throughout the motorsport world.”
