Track Focused has confirmed its first full campaign in the 2026 International GT Open, marking a significant step forward after a successful debut last year. The British squad, founded in 2009 by Sean Cooper and based in Ellesmere Port, will field its striking orange McLaren 720S GT3 throughout the 2026 season.
Previously, the team sampled the championship during selected rounds at the Red Bull Ring and Monza Circuit, gaining valuable experience that ultimately encouraged the move to a full-time entry.
A family affair on track
In a compelling storyline, Track Focused will field a father-and-son pairing for the 2026 campaign. Darren Kell will continue behind the wheel, joined by his son James Kell.
James Kell brings proven pedigree to the line-up. He has already claimed two race wins in the GT Open and has experience racing with McLaren machinery, making him a strong addition to the Pro-Am entry.
Notably, while family pairings are not uncommon in GT racing, the Kell duo adds a personal dimension to Track Focused’s ambitious programme.
Track Focused to transition to Pro-Am challenge in 2026 International GT Open
As the team steps up, it will also compete in the highly competitive Pro-Am class. This move introduces new variables, including unfamiliar circuits, tyre characteristics and race conditions. Despite these challenges, the team remains focused on long-term growth rather than immediate results.
Darren Kell highlighted the significance of the transition and the mindset heading into the season:
“As a team, we really enjoyed the two trial GT Open rounds we entered in 2025, so we decided to step up to a full season entry for 2026, as well as making the step to Pro-Am. I am personally looking forward to the challenge, to me at least, of all new tracks to learn, as well as a new tyre and conditions to understand, and trying to get the best from me and the car. We have put together a strong team, and I look forward to driving with James as my Pro. We very much see this year as a learning year, bringing all these new factors together, and hope to be pushing forward as the season progresses.”
Building for the future
Importantly, Track Focused approaches the 2026 season with a clear development strategy. By combining Darren Kell’s experience with James Kell’s speed and familiarity with the series, the team aims to steadily improve across the year. Therefore, while immediate results may not define their campaign, consistent progress and adaptation will remain key objectives.
As the season unfolds, Track Focused’s journey from part-time entrant to full-season competitor will be one to watch—particularly with a unique family partnership driving the effort forward.
