Lamborghini stalwart VSR will contest the 2026 GT World Challenge (GTWC) Europe Sprint Cup with the Italian marque’s all-new Lamborghini Temerario GT3, marking the beginning of a fresh chapter for both team and manufacturer.
The new Temerario replaces the hugely successful Lamborghini Huracan GT3, a model that delivered multiple titles and race wins across international GT competition. Lamborghini will introduce the Temerario to global competition this term through a select group of teams, before expanding its availability in 2027.
VSR’s inclusion in that initial group underlines the strength of its long-standing partnership with Lamborghini. The Forlì-based outfit will draw upon more than a decade of experience running Lamborghini GT machinery as it develops and races the new car in high-level Sprint competition.
VSR confirms 2026 GTWC Europe Gold Cup entry with Lamborghini Temerario GT3
VSR will field the #163 entry in the Gold Cup class of the GTWC powered by AWS Sprint Cup. Loris Spinelli and Mattia Michelotto will share driving duties throughout the campaign.
Both drivers progressed through Lamborghini’s one-make ladder in Super Trofeo before stepping up to GT3 racing with the brand. That shared background provides continuity as the team adapts to a new technical package.
Michelotto has accumulated several GT World appearances in recent seasons, primarily with VSR but also with fellow Lamborghini squad Barwell Motorsport. Spinelli, meanwhile, competed in 2025 with Imperiale Racing, further strengthening his GT3 credentials within the Lamborghini fold.
Together, they offer a blend of familiarity and competitive pace as VSR prepares to tackle the challenges of developing a brand-new GT3 contender.
Sospiri: “A steep learning curve”
Team boss Vincenzo Sospiri expressed pride at VSR’s role in launching the Temerario programme.
“Myself and the whole VSR crew are extremely proud to continue our relationship with Lamborghini by being one of the first teams to race the new Temerario,” said VSR boss Vincenzo Sospiri. “It will be a steep learning curve for everyone involved but we have two very competitive drivers and the invaluable support of Lamborghini Squadra Corse alongside us for this new adventure.”
His comments highlighted both the opportunity and the challenge that accompany a new-car debut at this level of competition.
Wider Temerario roll-out begins
Elsewhere, Rutronik Racing has already confirmed plans to contest the full 2026 GTWC Europe campaign with the Temerario. In addition, another team is expected to join the Endurance Cup grid before the season begins.
The championship will open at Circuit Paul Ricard on 11–12 April, while the Sprint Cup season will commence at Brands Hatch on 2–3 May.
As a result, VSR faces an intense preparation period. Nevertheless, with proven Lamborghini expertise and factory backing, the Italian squad stands well placed to guide the Temerario GT3 through its first competitive season.
