Pascal Wehrlein may be out of the drivers’ title fight. Still, the Porsche driver made clear after clinching third place in the first race of the London E-Prix double-header that his focus is firmly on securing the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships for TAG Heuer Porsche.

Speaking to the media, including Pit Debrief, after the race, Wehrlein dismissed any personal disappointment about missing out on the drivers’ crown, instead highlighting the bigger picture for the German outfit.

Full focus on the team’s title for Wehrlein

“The drivers’ championship is gone,” Wehrlein said bluntly. “Honestly, it doesn’t really matter if in the end we finish second, third or fourth. Important for us is the team’s championship and the manufacturer’s ones.

Porsche’s manufacturer title hopes were boosted not only by Wehrlein’s podium but also by customer team Andretti, with Jake Dennis scoring valuable points using the same powertrain.

Wehrlein noted, “Yeah, I don’t know what to say. I mean, who would have thought five races ago that Nick would have had a strike of so many good races? It can go super quick in Formula E, and you can never underrate someone.”

Positive Formula E season for Porsche

Wehrlein, who led the championship earlier in the season, acknowledged the personal disappointment of not being in contention in the final weekend. But he maintained a sense of pride over Porsche’s overall campaign.

“I think overall it was still a positive season.

“You know, finishing second, third, whatever in the drivers’ [championship] probably winning the team’s and the manufacturer’s ones. You cannot say it was a bad season at all.

“Yeah, obviously not what we hoped for and what we worked really hard for, but still a very good season. Yeah, it’s out of doubt.”

With the introduction of pit boost races stirring debate among drivers, Wehrlein offered a measured stance, disagreeing with suggestions made by Nyck de Vries that every race should include the new format.

“No, I quite like the mix of it. I wouldn’t say so. Yeah. No, I would not vote for that.”

Porsche enters the final race of the season on Sunday with both titles still within reach—and Wehrlein determined to finish the year with collective success, even if the individual title slips away.
