After an impressive runner-up finish in the 2025 Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Championship, Zack Scoular will return for a second campaign in 2026 with mtec Motorsport. The 18-year-old New Zealander, who stunned the competition in his debut season with two wins and seven podiums, is now targeting the championship title on home soil.

A strong performance in 2025

In 2025, Scoular made a remarkable impact in the competitive New Zealand series. Competing in his first home season, he secured two wins and seven podiums, finishing second overall behind Arvid Lindblad. Additionally, he claimed a creditable second place in the New Zealand Grand Prix, earned the Rookie of the Year award, and won the prestigious Trans-Tasman Trophy. His standout season set high expectations for his return in 2026.

Following his success in New Zealand, Scoular sought to expand his motorsport experience in Europe. He joined Palou Motorsport for a campaign in Eurocup-3, gaining valuable exposure to higher levels of single-seater racing.

Targeting the title in 2026

Looking ahead to 2026, Scoular is determined to build on his success and go one step further. “I would love to be able to win the championship in front of a home crowd,” he explained. “I really enjoyed the championship campaign last season and learned a lot, but I would love to go one better this time around.” He added, “Every race is a chance to show how much I have grown.”

Scoular’s return to mtec Motorsport is a promising development. The team has proven its ability to compete at the top level, and with Scoular’s strong performances from the previous year, the 2026 championship looks set to be one of the most closely contested in the history of the FR Oceania series.

A passion for racing

Scoular’s journey into motorsport began at the age of nine, inspired by his father, Stuart Scoular, a former rally driver. Stuart’s participation in New Zealand’s iconic Targa Rally sparked Zack’s passion for the sport. Despite living in Dubai, Scoular regularly competed in Formula 4 across the Emirates and in the UK. In his rookie season of the British Formula Four Championship, he finished 15th overall, securing fifth in the Rookie Cup.

Before his breakout season in the 2025 FROC, Scoular had a diverse career in karting and Formula 4. He achieved a third-place finish in the 2023 IAME Series UAE in the X30 Senior category and gained invaluable experience competing in various Formula 4 championships, including the F4 UAE and F4 British Championship.

Scoular’s success in 2025 with mtec Motorsport – including a victory in the opening round and multiple podium finishes – proved his potential in Formula Regional racing. He will be keen to further cement his reputation in the upcoming 2026 FR Oceania Trophy.
