Qualifying for the opening round of the 2026 F1 season has been completed at the Australian GP, view the full results here.

George Russell finally showed Mercedes’s true pace in F1 2026 as the Brit put 0.6s into the field in FP3. It was not perfect for the team as Kimi Antonelli had a massive shunt at turn 2.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc completed the top 3 as Ferrari looked second fastest. McLaren and Red Bull complete the top four teams.

Behind them, Racing Bulls, Haas and Audi looked to be in the mix for the final two Q3 spots.

Q1

The stunning moment in the opening segment of qualifying was Max Verstappen crashing into turn 1. The rear axle locked and he ended up in the tyres.

Gabriel Bortoleto did not start Q3 as his car broke down before the pit lane.

As for Lando Norris, he also had a scare. Cooling fans were not taken off Kimi Antonelli’s car and one of them dropped on track. It was hit by the McLaren driver. The front wing had to be taped up under red flag conditions.
