Mercedes have confirmed that Bradley Lord will become the team’s F1 Deputy Team Principal, working closely with their boss Toto Wolff. It is a role he starts immediately.
The Brit has been involved in Formula 1 for 25 years. He started at Renault as a press officer in the early 2000s, becoming a senior press officer for the team ahead of the 2007 season.
Lord would go on to join the Mercedes company as a communications manager in 2011. He made a full-time return to F1 in 2013 in the same role. He would be eventually appointed as head of communications for the Mercedes F1 squad in 2023, closely supporting team principal Toto Wolff.
In the last couple of years when the Austrian has missed races, such as the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, Lord has stepped in for post-race media sessions. Now, he has officially become his deputy.
Toto Wolff, Mercedes F1 boss on the announcement of Bradley Lord becoming Deputy Team Principal:
“With the growth of our team and F1, the scope of our operations and associated responsibilities at a senior level has grown significantly. We have therefore taken this opportunity to put in place a change that has effectively been operating in practice for some time.
“While my role and overall responsibilities will not change one millimetre, Bradley’s work as Deputy Team Principal will further enhance the capability of our leadership group and provide continued support for me as our Team Principal and CEO.
“Bradley is a dedicated and long-serving member of our organisation who has played an important part in the team becoming the most successful of the modern era. Aligning our structure in this way ensures our leadership group can focus fully on the areas where they can add the greatest value and is optimised to meet the demands of a rapidly growing sport.”
