Reigning Goodyear Wingfoot Award recipient Alessio Rovera has outlined a clear objective ahead of the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season: victory. After finishing third and second in successive FIA WEC LMGT3 campaigns, the Italian now aims to go one step further.
As the new season approaches, Rovera leaves no doubt about his intentions to secure top honours as quickly as possible.
A key figure in Ferrari’s GT success
Since becoming an official factory driver for Ferrari four years ago, Rovera has played a central role in the marque’s GT racing efforts. He first rose to prominence by winning the FIA WEC LMGTE Am title in 2021, claiming four victories from six starts. Notably, that campaign included a triumph at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Subsequently, he added the LMP2 Pro-Am Cup to his achievements in 2022 before returning to GT competition the following year. Therefore, his résumé reflects both versatility and consistent success at the highest level of endurance racing.
Since the introduction of the LMGT3 category, Rovera has secured two victories alongside teammates François Hériau and Simon Mann. The trio triumphed in Bahrain in 2024 and Belgium in 2025, establishing themselves as a competitive and cohesive unit.
Importantly, the #21 crew remains unchanged for a third consecutive season under the AF Corse banner. As a result, they are one of only a handful of line-ups to benefit from such continuity, which could prove decisive over a demanding championship.
Rovera highlights confidence in the new Ferrari WEC LMGT3 challenger
Rovera enters the season with optimism, particularly regarding Ferrari’s updated machinery. He has played a significant role in the development of the 296 LMGT3 Evo, giving him valuable insight into its capabilities.
“I can’t wait to get back on-track for the many challenges that await us this year and to give my best for the team. We’re setting our sights high. The season will be very demanding, but I have a lot of faith in the new 296 Evo because we’ve worked really hard on it.
“The car seems to respond well to set-up changes, which gives me confidence and makes our job as drivers easier, but I know that from track-to-track, we’ll encounter different conditions and contexts, so we’ll have to figure out what to do as we go. We’re looking forward to getting started at Imola, and the goal is to win as soon as possible.”
Home start at Imola with a demanding global calendar ahead
The season begins at the 6 Hours of Imola, held at the iconic Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari. Racing on home soil offers Rovera and Ferrari an early opportunity to make a statement. Moreover, the familiarity of the circuit and strong local support could provide an additional boost as the campaign gets underway.
Following Imola, the championship continues with a challenging international schedule. Rounds at Spa-Francorchamps, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Interlagos, Circuit of the Americas and Fuji Speedway will test teams across a variety of conditions. The season will then conclude with races in Qatar and Bahrain, ensuring a demanding and diverse campaign from start to finish.
Thus, with proven pace, a stable driver line-up and confidence in the new car, Rovera appears well-positioned for a strong title challenge. Nevertheless, the competitiveness of the LMGT3 field means execution will be crucial at every round.
Ultimately, Alessio Rovera heads into 2026 determined to convert consistency into championship success—and, as he emphasises, to start winning without delay.
