As Leo Robinson continues to make waves in the motorsport world as a representative of Algeria, it’s clear that his journey is taking a unique trajectory—one that diverges from the typical path many young drivers follow in pursuit of Formula 1. In an exclusive interview with Pit Debrief, Robinson opens up about the appeal of endurance racing, his deep connection with his Algerian roots, and how he defines success and legacy.

A new direction: embracing endurance racing

After an early end to his 2026 British F4 season, Robinson made a full switch to endurance racing, competing in the 2026 Le Mans Cup with Bretton Racing in the LMP3 category. This transition follows his impressive debut weekend at Silverstone in 2025, where he claimed two wins. For Robinson, endurance racing aligns closely with his long-term vision for a sustainable and fulfilling career in motorsport.

“It’s got the best career prospects. Yeah, it’s a very nice, good atmosphere. It’s very nice for the panic as well. Every team has a chef. It’s nice hospitality. Endurance racing is very laid-back because you just do your best. Instead of Formula racing, where it’s all about you, you just play your small part in a bigger piece. Bigger one like me. But yeah, it’s nice and laid-back. It’s a good atmosphere.”

For Robinson, the camaraderie and teamwork that define endurance racing provide a refreshing contrast to the high-pressure, solo focus of Formula racing. In endurance events like the Le Mans Cup, success is a collective effort, with multiple drivers contributing to the overall result. This team dynamic appeals to Robinson, who appreciates the opportunity to play his part in a larger goal.

Pride in his Algerian roots

Robin’s Algerian heritage holds a special place in his heart. At the international level, Algeria has traditionally been underrepresented in motorsport. However, Robinson proudly embraces his Algerian roots, wearing the country’s flag in competition.

“Yeah, of course, they have a lot of support online and everything. And, yeah, sometimes you see people putting the Algerian flag at the grandstand. Yeah, it’s pretty cool,” he shared, acknowledging the growing support fans in Algeria and the wider MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region give him.

Robinson deeply understands the significance of standing on the podium while waving the Algerian flag, reflecting on what it means to represent his country on the global stage.

“Yeah, it’s quite a proud moment. It’s good. We did it a couple of times so far. But, yeah, I’d like to win a couple more races,” he said, emphasisng his goal of not just achieving personal success, but also inspiring motorsport enthusiasts in Algeria.

Redefining success and legacy

When asked how he defines success, Robinson’s approach is refreshingly pragmatic. He is less concerned with titles or fame and more focused on achieving longevity in the sport.

“Well, if success for me was being paid to race and I could do it forever, that would be a success for me,” he said.

For Robinson, success isn’t solely about championship victories or recognition—it’s about the ability to race professionally for as long as possible, doing what he loves. This mindset helps him enjoy the process without getting bogged down by external expectations or the pressure to win at all costs.

As for his legacy, Robinson admitted that it’s still too early to define it, but his focus remains on excellence and performance.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be a quick driver, a good driver. That’s pretty much it.”

A global motorsport figure

Robinson’s story is one of passion, resilience, and cultural pride. His switch to endurance racing, coupled with his determination to raise Algeria’s profile in motorsport, has made him a unique figure in the sport. His career not only reflects technical expertise but also highlights the importance of representation and mentorship within the motorsport community.

As Robinson continues to evolve in his career, his journey will undoubtedly inspire both his peers and future generations of drivers. With an eye on long-term success, both on and off the podium, Robinson is carving a path that goes beyond personal triumphs and aims to make a lasting impact on the sport and its diverse global community.
