Douglas Motorsport has confirmed Jason Smyth as the final addition to its 2026 GB4 Championship line-up. The 19-year-old Irishman joins a strong and diverse driver roster as the team builds on its competitive debut GB4 season.

Smyth arrives in GB4 after a dominant campaign in Formula Ford, where he established himself as one of the standout performers in the category. As a result, he now steps into single-seaters with significant momentum and high expectations.

Dominant Formula Ford campaign defines 2025 season

Smyth delivered a near-perfect season in the United Formula Ford Championship, where he won 10 of the 12 races. He also finished on the podium in every round, which underlined his consistency and control throughout the year.

In addition, he secured nine pole positions and seven fastest laps, while finishing 77 points clear of his closest rival. This dominance established him as the benchmark driver in the series and set the stage for his end-of-season success.

Smyth carried his form into the sport’s most prestigious events and delivered a remarkable double victory. At the Formula Ford Festival, he secured pole position, won his heat, controlled the semi-final, and then led every lap of the Grand Final. Despite safety car interruptions, he finished over two seconds clear of the field and emulated his father Neville Smyth, who won the event in 2010.

One week later, he returned to Silverstone for the Walter Hayes Trophy and produced another standout performance. Starting 13th on the grid for the final, he charged through the field to claim victory in dramatic fashion. Consequently, he completed a rare and highly respected double in Formula Ford history.

Smyth’s success in 2025 followed earlier achievements in 2024, where he won the Northern Ireland Formula Ford Championship and the Martin Donnelly Trophy. These results confirmed his rapid rise through the ranks.

He now joins Douglas Motorsport alongside GB4 race winner Dayton Coulthard and fellow Irish driver Conor Grant. Therefore, the team fields a strong and competitive line-up for the 2026 season.

Symth targets successful transition

Smyth now prepares for his first season in slicks and wings, and he has already begun adapting to GB4 machinery through early testing. He aims to translate his Formula Ford dominance into immediate competitiveness at the next level.

“I’m looking forward to the next step in my motorsport career and success in the coming year with Douglas Motorsport. I really can’t thank Douglas Motorsport enough for this opportunity in my first season in slicks and wings, I’m really looking forward to translating my dominance in Formula Ford into the GB4 series next year and just can’t wait to get going”

Douglas Motorsport Team Manager Gemma Stevenson has welcomed Smyth’s arrival and highlighted his early adaptation to GB4 machinery.

“We’re thrilled that we’ve been able to find a way for Jason to move up to GB4 with us in 2026. There’s no denying the speed and talent he has in a Formula Ford car, and he’s adapted well to slicks and wings in the limited testing he’s done so far with us. It’s going to be very exciting to see how he gets on next year.”

Smyth now enters GB4 as one of the most decorated Formula Ford graduates in recent years. With proven race-winning ability, strong testing progression, and a competitive team environment, he begins his single-seater journey in a strong position.

If he adapts quickly, he could immediately become a leading contender in the 2026 GB4 Championship.
