Flynn Jackes secured a hard-fought podium in the final 2026 GB3 race at Silverstone, rounding off a weekend that carried significant personal meaning. Although he narrowly missed out on victory after a dramatic final-lap battle, the Elite Motorsport driver focused on the broader journey that brought him back to the front of the field. As a result, his third-place finish carried both sporting and emotional significance.

Jackes on overcoming major physical setbacks ahead of 2026 GB3 return at Silverstone

Speaking with GB3 after the race, Jackes revealed the extent of the challenges he has faced since a serious injury at the end of 2024. His recovery not only demanded patience but also required significant physical transformation to meet the demands of the championship.

“End of 2024, I broke my leg. I came back to do it this year. I was 83 kilos with kit and the weight limit is 70, so I struggled throughout the whole year. And then throughout the summer, I lost about 14 kilos, just with my leg healing.”

Therefore, his return to competitive form reflects months of disciplined recovery and adaptation under difficult circumstances.

Balancing disappointment and achievement

Despite the satisfaction of reaching the podium, Jackes admitted mixed emotions after losing the chance to win on the final lap. Nevertheless, he acknowledged the importance of perspective given his journey back to racing.

“And it’s a give and a take. I’m gutted that I’m here in third, but I also need to look at the positive that I’m here in third. So I’m just going to keep my head down and hopefully come back and be on the podium on reverse.”

Consequently, he chose to focus on the positives while remaining motivated for future opportunities.

Recognition of progress and potential

Jackes also received praise for the progress he has made since his injury, particularly given the level of competition in GB3. While disappointment lingered in the immediate aftermath, he acknowledged that his performance marked a significant step forward. Furthermore, his consistency and resilience throughout the weekend highlighted his ability to compete at the front despite ongoing recovery challenges.

Reflecting on his approach to competition, Jackes emphasised the importance of learning from both success and setbacks. He highlighted the need to remain balanced in order to continue improving.

“Yeah, I mean, everything’s a give and a take. You can look at what you’ve done wrong to help you improve forward, but you also need to remember to keep looking at what you did good to take it into next time and to feel good about yourself.”

As a result, he continues to build a mindset focused on long-term development rather than short-term frustration.

Jackes’ podium at Silverstone represents far more than a race result. It reflects a remarkable recovery journey, sustained effort, and growing competitiveness in one of the toughest junior categories. Ultimately, while the victory slipped away in dramatic fashion, his performance underlined both resilience and potential—qualities that suggest further podium opportunities will follow as the season progresses.
