The 2026 FIA Formula 2 Championship continued with another dramatic Sprint Race at the Miami GP, as Nikola Tsolov strengthened his early F2 title lead with victory for Campos Racing.
After leaving Australia on top of the Drivers’ Championship, Tsolov added another 10 points in Miami and moved onto 35 points. Meanwhile, Laurens van Hoepen finished second and climbed to 26 points, keeping himself firmly in the title fight ahead of Sunday’s Feature Race. In the Teams’ Championship, Campos Racing also extended their advantage, while Trident made an important move up the order after another strong result from van Hoepen.
Tsolov wins Miami Sprint Race and extends 2026 F2 championship lead
Before Sunday’s Feature Race, the Miami Sprint Race offered another important test for the early championship contenders. Tsolov started from the front row and immediately took control at the start. However, van Hoepen kept the pressure on throughout the race and briefly moved into the lead after Tsolov made a mistake through the chicane.
Nevertheless, Tsolov responded strongly in the closing stages. As van Hoepen and Alex Dunne joined the fight for victory on the final lap, the Campos Racing driver produced a bold move to reclaim the lead and secure his second win of the season.
As a result, Tsolov now leads the Drivers’ Championship with 35 points. Van Hoepen sits second on 26 points, while Rafael Câmara remains third on 18 points.
Dürksen and Dunne gain ground in Drivers’ Standings
Behind the top two, several drivers made important gains in Miami. Joshua Dürksen moved up to fourth in the standings with 15 points after another strong points finish. Meanwhile, Ritomo Miyata sits fifth on 14 points, just ahead of Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak on 13.
Notably, Alex Dunne doubled his points tally after fighting for victory late in the Sprint Race. He now sits level with Oliver Goethe on 12 points. Further back, Gabriele Minì has nine points, Noel León has eight, and Colton Herta remains just outside the top ten with six. Nicolás Varrone also opened his account in Miami and moved onto five points.
Campos Racing strengthens Teams’ Championship advantage
The Miami Sprint Race also helped Campos Racing increase their lead in the Teams’ Championship. The team now sits on 43 points, 10 clear of Invicta Racing. However, Invicta remains well placed ahead of the Feature Race, especially with Rafael Câmara starting from P2 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Trident climbed to third with 26 points after van Hoepen’s second-place finish. MP Motorsport follows on 21 points, while Hitech sits close behind on 20. Rodin Motorsport holds sixth with 16 points, ahead of ART Grand Prix on 13. Van Amersfoort Racing, DAMS Lucas Oil, PREMA Racing, and AIX Racing complete the order.
Feature Race could still reshape Miami standings
Although Tsolov and Campos Racing now hold clear momentum, the Miami weekend remains unfinished. Sunday’s Feature Race offers more points and could quickly alter both championship battles. Maini has a major chance to recover from his Sprint Race disappointment from pole position, while Câmara, van Hoepen, and Tsolov all remain central to the fight at the front.
Therefore, Miami has already strengthened Tsolov’s early championship position. However, with the Feature Race still to come, the standings could change again before the weekend concludes.
