The 2026 International GT Open season resumed at the Hungaroring for Round 4, and the Hungarian weekend delivered another major swing in the championship battle.
Tom Emson and Tom Lebbon arrived as the overall leaders after sweeping Misano for Elite Motorsport with Entire Race Engineering. However, Saturday brought frustration when their #17 Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO retired from Race 1 after an engine sensor issue. ZRS Motorsport’s Pietro Armanni and Alex Fontana took advantage, claiming their second win of the season in the #911 Porsche 911 GT3 R EVO.
Yet Elite Motorsport answered on Sunday. Emson took pole for Race 2, and the British pair converted it into their third victory of the campaign. As a result, they left Hungary still leading the overall standings, 13 points clear of Team Motopark’s Christian Mansell and Maximilian Götz.
2026 International GT Open: Hungaroring: Free Practice Sessions
The weekend opened in sunny, mild and breezy conditions, with 27 cars taking to the Hungaroring on Friday. AF Corse started strongest in Free Practice 1 as Laurent De Meeus and Vincent Abril set the pace in the #55 Ferrari 296 GT3 EVO.
However, the fastest lap of Friday came later in Free Practice 2. Team Motopark’s #71 Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, shared by Mansell and Götz, topped the day with a 1:43.455. Fach Auto Tech followed just 0.080s behind, confirming the strong pace that would later carry Alexander Fach to pole.
Meanwhile, the Bronze Test went to Baron Motorsport Team. Adrian Lewandowski put the #6 Ferrari on top with a 1:43.818, ahead of Team ISR and Sendom Racing Team.
Friday also brought the weekend’s biggest incident. Andrey Borodin lost the #24 Greystone GT McLaren at Turn 9, hit the barriers and rolled. He avoided injury, but the damage forced Greystone GT to continue with the spare car before the entry later withdrew.

2026 International GT Open: Hungaroring: Race 1
Race 1 quickly changed shape. Fach started from pole but could not hold the advantage, as Lebbon, Fontana and Götz moved ahead. Lebbon opened an early margin in the Elite Motorsport Ferrari, although a jump-start penalty later compromised the championship leaders’ afternoon.
Behind him, Fontana stayed close for ZRS Motorsport, while Götz kept Team Motopark in the fight. As usual at the Hungaroring, positions remained relatively stable before the pit window, but the gaps gradually tightened.
After the driver changes, Armanni led from Mansell, while Meakin moved into third for Greystone GT. De Meeus headed Pro-Am for AF Corse, and Emson ran fifth after the earlier penalty had dropped Elite Motorsport out of victory contention.
Then, the race turned again. A Safety Car appeared after Rey Acosta went off and became stuck in the gravel. Under that neutralisation, the #17 Elite Motorsport Ferrari returned to the pits with an engine sensor issue and retired.
At the restart, Armanni resisted Mansell’s pressure and secured ZRS Motorsport’s second win of the season. Mansell and Götz finished just 0.648s behind, while Meakin and Macdonald completed the podium for Greystone GT. In Pro-Am, De Meeus and Abril took a maiden class win for AF Corse, while Marcelo Hahn and Galid Osman won Am.

2026 International GT Open: Hungaroring: Race 2
Race 2 gave Emson and Lebbon the comeback they needed. Emson held the lead at the start from Baumann, Salaquarda, Meakin, Mettler and Mansell, while the leading group settled into a tight but controlled rhythm.
Further back, Basz supplied much of the early action as he moved forward and fought with Moncini and Neubauer. However, the key battle stayed at the front, where Elite Motorsport managed its race cleanly through the pit window.
After all driver changes, Lebbon led from Macdonald, with Durán running third for AF Corse. Macdonald stayed close and kept the pressure high, but Lebbon held firm. The race ended under red flags after Tomasz Magdziarz spun the Good Speed Racing Team Aston Martin at the final corner and hit the pit-lane wall. He avoided injury.
Emson and Lebbon therefore secured their third win of the season. Greystone GT finished second for the third time in four races, while Durán and Mosca took their first podium of the campaign for AF Corse.
Team ISR won Pro-Am with Salaquarda and Milota, ahead of CBRX by SPS and Olimp Racing. In Am, Korzeniowski took victory for Olimp Racing, ahead of Mazur and local favourites Zsigo and Walter.

Conclusion: Elite Motorsport survives Hungaroring setback
Hungaroring looked dangerous for Elite Motorsport after Saturday. The Race 1 retirement gave Mansell and Götz, Macdonald and Meakin, and Armanni and Fontana a chance to close in, while ZRS Motorsport converted the opportunity into victory.
However, Emson and Lebbon delivered the ideal response on Sunday. Their pole and Race 2 win restored momentum, protected their championship lead and ensured they head into the second half of the season with control of the standings.
Behind them, Team Motopark remains firmly in range, Greystone GT continues to score consistently, and ZRS Motorsport has returned to winning form. Therefore, while Elite Motorsport still leads, the Hungaroring round kept the International GT Open title fight wide open.
