Championship leader Nikita Bedrin will start the second GB3 Championship race at the Red Bull Ring from pole position as he targets a second victory of the weekend.

The VRD Racing driver dominated Qualifying 2 with a 1m24.345s, finishing 0.320s ahead of Rodin Motorsport’s Martin Molnar. Race 1 runner-up Lucas Fluxá will start third alongside Xcel Motorsport team-mate Rowan Campbell-Pilling.

Bedrin targets Red Bull Ring double

Bedrin enters Race 2 after claiming his fifth victory of the season during Saturday’s opening contest.

The championship leader started third in Race 1 before passing Molnar on the opening lap and challenging long-time leader Maxim Rehm. He eventually swept around the outside of Rehm at Turn 6 to take the lead during the closing stages.

Bedrin will begin Sunday’s race from a stronger position after producing the quickest lap of the weekend in Qualifying 2. His 1m24.345s secured pole by more than three tenths of a second and continued his unbeaten run in the Race 2 grid-setting sessions this season.

Molnar will share the front row with Bedrin after completing his strongest overall Qualifying performance of the campaign. The Hungarian took Race 1 pole before adding second place in Qualifying 2.

Xcel Motorsport locks out second row

Fluxá will start third after recording his best Qualifying result of the season.

The Spaniard finished second in Race 1 after Rehm received a time penalty for exceeding track limits. He will now attempt to challenge Bedrin and Molnar from the inside of the second row.

Campbell-Pilling starts alongside his team-mate in fourth. The British driver endured a difficult opening race and later received a one-position penalty for weaving during a Safety Car restart.

Nevertheless, Xcel Motorsport’s second-row lockout gives both drivers an opportunity to fight near the front and score significant championship points.

Rodin places three cars inside top six

Rehm will start fifth after missing the Qualifying 2 front row by 0.179s.

The German led most of Race 1 after passing Molnar at Turn 3 on the opening lap. However, Bedrin overtook him late in the contest before track-limits and restart-weaving penalties dropped Rehm to seventh in the amended classification.

Abbi Pulling will begin alongside Rehm in sixth. The Rodin driver topped the final pre-event testing session and qualified within 0.643s of Bedrin’s benchmark.

Rodin therefore has all three cars inside the first six positions, with Molnar on the front row and Rehm and Pulling sharing the third row.

Vinci drops three places on Race 2 grid

Patricio Gonzalez will start seventh for VRD Racing, while Elite Motorsport’s Kyuho Lee moves up to eighth.

Dante Vinci originally qualified sixth after maintaining his strong testing form during Qualifying 2. However, the Hillspeed driver received a three-place grid penalty following an incident in Race 1 and will start ninth.

Deagen Fairclough completes the top 10 for Hitech. The British driver recovered from eighth on the Race 1 grid to cross the line fourth before Rehm’s initial penalty temporarily promoted him to the podium. A subsequent sanction returned Fairclough to fourth in the amended result.

Leon Wilson and Rodrigo Gonzalez occupy the sixth row, while Peter Bouzinelos and Aurelia Nobels start 13th and 14th respectively.

Lewis Gilbert also serves a grid penalty and drops to the final starting position. Race 2 begins at 09:55 local time on Sunday.
