DTM | 2026 Oschersleben | Race 2 | Bortolotti takes historic first victory for Lamborghini Temerario

Mirko Bortolotti claimed victory in DTM race 2 at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, securing the first global win for the new Lamborghini Temerario GT3. The TGI Team by GRT driver used a well-executed pit-stop strategy to rise from sixth on the grid and beat championship leader Maro Engel by 3.027 seconds.

Pole-sitter Thomas Preining lost the lead during the second mandatory pit-stop window but recovered to complete the podium. Marco Wittmann finished fourth for Schubert Motorsport, while Luca Engstler placed a second Lamborghini inside the top five.

Preining survives Engstler’s opening attack

Preining retained the lead despite facing immediate pressure from Engstler at the start. The Red Bull Team Abt driver briefly moved ahead at Turn 1, but he drifted away from the racing line and allowed Preining to reclaim first place on the inside.

Engstler remained second ahead of Arjun Maini, who gained a position by passing Wittmann during the opening phase. Kelvin van der Linde followed his BMW teammate, while Bortolotti and Engel initially occupied sixth and seventh.

Preining began to build an advantage despite carrying 20 kilograms of success ballast following his Race 1 victory. Engstler occasionally reduced the gap by setting competitive lap times, but the Porsche driver remained in control as the first pit-stop window approached.

Bortolotti gains ground through the first stops

Nicki Thiim became the first driver to complete his opening mandatory stop after starting near the back of the grid. The leading group waited longer before changing tyres, with van der Linde becoming the first driver from the top six to enter the pit lane. Maini and Wittmann stopped one lap later, but their earlier stops did not produce the desired undercut. Preining retained the effective lead when he eventually completed his tyre change.

Bortolotti stayed out until the end of the window and used the overcut to move into second place. Engel also gained positions through a late stop and a quick tyre change, emerging in third. Engstler lost time because of a problem with the left wheel gun and dropped from second to fourth. The slow stop removed him from the immediate fight for the lead after his strong opening stint.

Second pit stop decides the race

Bortolotti remained within one second of Preining throughout much of the second stint. A brief rain shower passed over the circuit near the halfway point, but it did not significantly affect the running order or force the drivers onto wet-weather tyres. The decisive moment arrived during the second mandatory pit-stop window. Preining, Bortolotti, Engel and Engstler entered the pit lane together for their final set of Pirelli slick tyres.

TGI Team by GRT completed a rapid stop for Bortolotti, while Manthey encountered a problem with the left-rear wheel on Preining’s Porsche. The delay cost Preining more than two seconds and dropped him behind both Bortolotti and Engel.

Bortolotti returned to the circuit in the lead and quickly created a safe advantage. He controlled the remaining laps before crossing the line to secure his first DTM victory since 2024 and the fifth of his career. More importantly, he delivered the Lamborghini Temerario GT3’s first race win anywhere in the world.

Preining holds off Wittmann for third

Engel finished second and strengthened his position at the top of the drivers’ standings. Preining had to switch his attention from fighting for victory to defending the final podium position from Wittmann. The BMW driver applied pressure during the closing laps but could not find a way past the Manthey Porsche around the narrow Oschersleben circuit. Preining therefore salvaged third place, while Wittmann narrowly missed a home podium for Schubert Motorsport.

Engstler completed a strong weekend with fifth place after finishing second in Race 1. Maini followed in sixth for HRT Ford Racing, ahead of van der Linde in the second Schubert Motorsport BMW. Ricardo Feller finished eighth in the second Manthey Porsche, while Jules Gounon and Matteo Cairoli completed the top ten for Mercedes-AMG and Ferrari respectively.

Engel extends his championship advantage

Engel left Oschersleben with 145 points after following his Race 1 podium with second place on Sunday. Thiim remained second in the standings with 124 points, while Lucas Auer sat one point further behind after finishing Race 2 in 12th.

Preining moved onto 117 points following his victory, two pole positions and third-place finish across the weekend. However, Bortolotti ended the event with the landmark result as Lamborghini celebrated the Temerario GT3’s first victory in front of 55,100 spectators.
