Maximilian Günther moves to Envision Racing for Formula E’s new GEN 4 Era in 2026/27. The German driver ends his partnership with Penske after two wins for the team.
A promising tenure in black and gold for Günther
Günthers move to Envision brings to a close a two year stint which began all the way back in Season 4, when the German signed with then team Geox Dragon under owner Jay Penske.
Eighty three races on, the German boasts five wins and ten podiums, two of those wins coming in black and gold for DS Penske.
Season 11 saw Günther return to DS Penske, and the German started off strong, converting pole into victory in Round 3 at Jeddah.
Points were few and far between for the next few rounds. Six points in six races saw the German slip to eleventh in the standings before a second win in Shanghai returned the DS Penske driver to the top five in the championship.
Since then, the German hasn’t returned to a Formula E podium and ended Season 11 tenth in the standings.
Season 12 has seen Günther unable to return to the form he had shown earlier in the previous season.
Sixth in the opening round was overshadowed by a string of seven pointless races before tenth in Monaco, having started third, ended his drought. By the end of the season, Günther had secured only 23 points to his name, with P6 remaining his best finish.
A brighter Formula E future in Envision green
Jumping to Envision for Season 13 marks the 29 year-old’s sixth team swap since his maiden campaign in Season 5.
Formula E Team’s champions in Season 9 is Envision. The Silverstone-based team has been competing in the all-electric series since its inaugural campaign in 2014/15.
With 17 wins, 58 podiums and 590 laps led, the team remains one of the most successful Formula E outlets to line up on the grid.
But, after securing four wins in Season 9 on the way to the Team’s title, the British team has failed to match the heights of their title winning season.
A winless Season 10 was followed by one win and three podiums in Season 11 as the team slumped to eighth in the standings.
Season 12 has proved to be no better. No wins and just two podiums, the team looks set to finish outside the top five in the team’s standings for the third successive season.
But, with Günther lining up for the debut of GEN 4 Evo, the Envision team will be eyeing up a return to winning ways.
Günther’s first words as Envision driver
Envision Racing CTO Sylvain Filippi praised the arrival of Günther, saluting the arrival of the Gen4 machinery as well.

The driver commented positively on the announcement as well, stressing his joy at the new experience awaiting him.
