Fox Motorsport has confirmed Rob Crawford as the first driver in its line-up for the inaugural GB4 Winter Series, where the 18-year-old will make his competitive single-seater debut.
Crawford will lead the Maldon-based team’s multi-car entry at Snetterton on 24-25 October, with four races across the two-day event. The Essex racer has already tested both Ginetta Junior and GB4 machinery with Fox Motorsport as he prepares to move from karting into car racing.
His signing marks the latest step in a rapid motorsport progression that began only a little over three years ago. Since then, Crawford has collected karting titles, represented Slovakia internationally and steadily built experience ahead of his first competitive weekend in a single-seater.
Crawford completes rapid transition from karting
Crawford first attracted Fox Motorsport’s attention towards the end of 2024 after winning Brentwood Karting’s Driver of the Year award.
He earned the recognition after regularly finishing on the podium in the venue’s Super League competition, despite having only started karting just over a year earlier.
That performance earned him a prize test in Fox Motorsport’s Ginetta Junior car at Snetterton during 2025. The opportunity subsequently opened the door to another significant step when Crawford drove a Fox-run GB4 car at the same circuit in February this year.
Now, his relationship with the team will progress from testing into competition.
“I’m delighted to join Fox Motorsport for the GB4 Winter Series and to know that my single-seater debut is coming in just over two months’ time. After I tested the Fox Ginetta Junior, I was hoping to put something together in cars as soon as possible, but the extra year in karting has definitely improved my racecraft and being a part of the Fox team in GB4 testing earlier this year has really helped every element of my driving, so I think I’ll be in a much better place to show what I can do by the time the Winter Series comes along. I can’t wait.”
Rather than rushing directly into cars after his first test, Crawford continued racing in karts and used the additional season to sharpen his racecraft.
That decision has allowed him to reach his GB4 debut with significantly more competitive experience than he possessed when he first sampled Fox Motorsport machinery.
Karting success strengthens Crawford’s preparation
Crawford has continued to build an increasingly varied karting résumé while preparing for his transition into single-seaters.
Supported by Aspire Estate Agents, he won both the 2025 Club 73 youth title and the Brentwood Karting All-Stars Cup.
His 2026 programme has also taken him into several different championships. Crawford represented Slovakia, his mother’s home country, at the Rotax Racing Club International Finals while also competing in the Club 100 Senior Rotax Southern Sprint Championship, the RyeHouse ProKarting Series and the Brentwood Super League.
That variety has exposed him to different competitors, formats and racing situations before his move into GB4.
More importantly, Crawford believes another full year in karting has strengthened the racecraft that he will now need when he lines up against other single-seater drivers.
Fox Motorsport identifies Crawford’s natural speed
Fox Motorsport has followed Crawford’s development since his first opportunity with the team and has now chosen him to spearhead its inaugural GB4 Winter Series entry.
Team Principal Paul McNeilly believes Crawford’s rapid progress stands out, particularly given how recently the teenager entered competitive motorsport.
Fox has also already seen his potential first-hand through his Ginetta Junior and GB4 tests.
“We are delighted to welcome Rob to the team for the inaugural GB4 Winter Series and to be the first team to announce our presence. For a driver who sat in a go-kart for the first time just over three years ago, he’s achieved quite a lot and from what we saw when he tested both our Ginetta Junior and our GB4, he has a lot of natural speed and a great deal of potential. The four-race format of the Winter Series should help Rob learn so much more about a single-seater than testing would do, and we think that will be the same for any new driver looking to make the move into GB4 next year, so it’s great that the series has been established.”
For Fox Motorsport, the Winter Series provides an opportunity to develop Crawford through genuine racing rather than relying exclusively on private testing.
The format should expose him to qualifying pressure, race starts, wheel-to-wheel competition and the need to adapt between sessions across a compact weekend.
Winter Series offers valuable competitive experience
The inaugural GB4 Winter Series will take place on the Snetterton 300 layout and will feature four races across 24-25 October.
Each day will include one qualifying session and two races, giving Crawford multiple opportunities to experience the demands of a full competitive weekend.
Before racing begins, drivers will also complete two official test days on 22-23 October.
That structure creates an important bridge between testing and a potential full GB4 programme. Instead of simply accumulating laps, newcomers can experience the competitive elements that ultimately shape race weekends.
McNeilly believes that distinction makes the Winter Series particularly valuable for drivers who intend to step into GB4 full-time in the future.
For Crawford, it also provides a chance to transform the experience he has already gained in testing into meaningful racing mileage.
Snetterton provides familiar setting for Crawford’s debut
Snetterton will offer Crawford some familiarity as he takes the next step in his career.
The circuit hosted his Ginetta Junior test in 2025 and his first GB4 outing earlier this year, meaning he will not need to learn the venue from scratch when he arrives for the Winter Series.
Before then, Crawford will return to the circuit in September for another test in the Tatuus MSV GB4-025.
That running will allow him to continue refining his understanding of the car before the official October test days and race weekend.
Although testing has already given Crawford an introduction to single-seater machinery, competition will present a very different challenge. He will need to combine outright pace with qualifying execution, starts, racecraft and consistency across four races.
Crawford targets next stage of rapid progression
Crawford’s route into GB4 has moved quickly, but each stage has added another layer of experience.
He progressed from his first karting laps to regular podium finishes, championships and international competition before testing both junior touring car and single-seater machinery with Fox Motorsport.
Now, the Winter Series will give him his first chance to put those lessons together in a competitive car-racing environment.
Fox Motorsport has already identified natural speed and potential in the teenager, while Crawford believes the additional year he spent karting has left him better prepared for the transition.
With another GB4 test scheduled for September before four races at Snetterton in October, Crawford will soon receive the clearest indication yet of how far that rapid development has taken him.
