Elite Motorsport’s Fred Green moved to the brink of securing the 2026 George Russell Pole Position Cup after claiming his fifth pole of the GB4 season at Snetterton.
The British driver topped the classification for Race 1 at the East Anglian circuit, extending his advantage to three poles over nearest rival Alex O’Grady. With four pole positions still available across the final two events, Green now needs only one more to guarantee the season-long award.
KMR Sport’s O’Grady also added to his tally at Snetterton by securing the Race 2 pole, which is determined by each driver’s second-fastest lap from the 20-minute Qualifying session.
Green extends advantage at Snetterton
Green entered the weekend already leading the Pole Position Cup standings and strengthened his position by setting the fastest outright lap in Qualifying.
His Race 1 pole represented his fifth of the season, three more than O’Grady, while no other driver has secured more than one.
Both Green and O’Grady received £150 and a trophy for their respective Snetterton poles as part of the Pole Position Cup scheme.
The prize money has already proved useful for Green during his campaign.
“[It has] been covering my front wing bills! Unfortunately none of it has yet ended up in my pocket, but that’s what it is for!”
Green has now earned £750 through his five pole positions this season.
O’Grady remains only realistic challenger
Championship leader O’Grady remains the only driver with a realistic opportunity to deny Green the Pole Position Cup, but the task has become increasingly difficult.
O’Grady has two poles to his name and would need to secure at least three of the four remaining across the final two events. Green would also need to fail to add another pole to his tally.
One more pole for Green would therefore put the contest beyond O’Grady’s reach regardless of the remaining results.
Luke Hilton, Demitri Nolan and Thomas Ingram Hill have each claimed one pole during the season and sit behind the leading pair in the standings.
£1,000 prize awaits season winner
The driver who finishes the season with the most pole positions will receive the George Russell Pole Position Cup alongside an additional £1,000 prize.
The winning driver’s team will also receive the David Poole Warren Pole Position Cup and a further £1,000.
John Cavill presents the awards at each round. Cavill has supported drivers competing across MSV championships since 2013, alongside numerous other young racers who have progressed through the motorsport ladder.
With only two events remaining, Green now has the opportunity to wrap up the award with one more pole before the end of the campaign.
