Although Scott McLaughlin was fastest in qualifying for the Saturday race, he started 10th thanks to an engine penalty. Palou and Malukas, who were 2nd and 3rd quickest, were down in P11 and P12 for the same nine-place grid drop.
That left Pato O’Ward on pole position, with Newgarden, Power, Hauger, Rosenqvist and Foster completing the top 6. Championship contender Kyle Kirkwood was all the way down in 21st.
Over 24 hours after the red flag, Race 1 resumed. In Race 2 earlier in the day, Pato O’Ward won the race from Scott McLaughlin and Christian Lundgaard.
