The second race of the IndyCar weekend at the Milwaukee Mile has been completed! View the full race results here.

Milwaukee is a doubleheader for the NTT IndyCar Series, but the first feature event was delayed twice because of weather-related issues. Despite the delays, the second race of the weekend kicked off right on schedule. Series leader Alex Palou starts from pole, as his engine penalty only applies to Race 1.

As the track goes green, the opening laps are clean. In the first 15 laps, defending champion Palou pulls out an early gap, 3.3 seconds ahead of Josef Newgarden. Kyle Kirkwood, who had a less-than-stellar qualifying, makes up 7 positions in the opening of Race 2, going from 24th to 17th.

Mick Schumacher also has an amazing race start, as the IndyCar rookie maintains his rapid qualifying position in 4th and keeps up with the race leaders.

Milwaukee’s first caution comes courtesy of a spinning Romain Grosjean, but he keeps it out of the barriers. Activity flares up in the pit lane as the leaders peel in for tires and fuel. Palou peels back out onto the track with Newgarden shortly behind him.

Josef Newgarden’s race comes to an end on lap 145, and the track comes under its second full-course caution as the Nashville native hits the barriers. Additionally, a brief but messy restart sees Romain Grosjean hit the barriers in the same spot as Newgarden. A caution once again.

Furthermore, Will Power incurs a penalty for speeding in the pit lane, dropping from a potential race-winning position to 14th.

Pato O’Ward finds himself in a unique position as he wins Race 2 in Milwaukee and sits in the lead for the delayed Race 1!
