2026 Chinese F4 | Round 4: Chengdu | Shagaliev takes lead as Yu claims maiden win

Timur Shagaliev takes a 47-point Chinese F4 lead after a Chengdu double, as Yu Yan claims his maiden victory in Round 4.

Timur Shagaliev left Chengdu Tianfu International Circuit with the 2026 Chinese F4 Championship lead after a decisive Round 4 that produced three different winners across four races.

The Asia Racing Team RFN driver won Race 1 and Race 3, while teammate Josh Feng claimed Race 2. Yu Yan then completed the weekend with his maiden Chinese F4 victory in Race 4. Meanwhile, Kimi Chan endured his most difficult round of the season, losing the championship lead after a Race 1 disqualification and scoring only two fifth-place finishes.

Shagaliev now leads the overall Drivers’ Championship on 255 points, 47 ahead of Chan. Yu moves into third on 176, only one point ahead of Zhao Zijun, while Chen Sicong remains firmly involved on 171. Asia Racing Team RFN also takes over at the top of the Teams’ Championship with 389 points, six ahead of CHAMP Academy.

2026 Chinese F4: Chengdu: Qualifying 1: Chan edges Shagaliev by 0.008s

Rain created difficult conditions for the opening Qualifying session at the 3.260km Chengdu Tianfu International Circuit.

Chan emerged fastest for CHAMP Academy with a 1:33.053, but Shagaliev finished only 0.008s behind for Asia Racing Team RFN. Zhao completed the leading three with a 1:33.301.

Lao Min Hao produced the strongest CFGP performance in fourth overall, only 0.279s away from pole. Chen Zhuyuan followed in fifth ahead of Yuanyang Zeshi and Chen Sicong, while Zhang Jun, Yu and Feng completed the top 10.

2026 Chinese F4: Chengdu: Qualifying 2: Zhao takes pole

Conditions improved significantly for the second Qualifying session, and the lap times dropped by almost 10 seconds.

Zhao moved to the top of the classification with a 1:23.171 and secured the Race 3 pole for CHAMP Academy. Shagaliev again qualified second, this time 0.120s behind, while Chan completed the top three.

Chen Sicong took fourth overall and led CFGP, followed by Chen Zhuyuan and Lao Min Hao. Yu placed seventh, while Chow Chun Shing, Liu Shangqing and Zhang completed the top 10.

Tian Feng recorded a 1:31.934 but failed to meet the 110 per cent Qualifying requirement and was not classified.

2026 Chinese F4: Chengdu: Race 1: Shagaliev takes lead as Chan is disqualified

Shagaliev immediately overturned the Qualifying order at the start of Race 1. The Asia Racing Team RFN driver launched alongside Chan and took the lead into Turn 1 before beginning to build an advantage.

The Safety Car interrupted the race after Zhang became stranded in the run-off area. However, Shagaliev controlled the restart and remained clear through the remainder of the 22-lap contest.

Chan initially crossed the line second ahead of Chen Zhuyuan. However, officials later disqualified the championship leader for a technical infringement, promoting Chen to second and Yu to the final podium position.

Feng therefore moved to fourth, while Chen Sicong finished fifth overall and won the CFGP class. Zhao completed the top six. Post-race decisions also removed Ethan Bohong Liu, Qi Diqin and Andy Law from the classification.

Shagaliev’s victory represented an immediate 25-point gain over Chan and began what would become a major championship swing across the weekend.

2026 Chinese F4: Chengdu: Race 2: Feng charges from the front as Shagaliev recovers

The reverse-grid format placed Huang Xiaofeng on pole, but Yang Peng made the stronger start from the front row and moved into the lead at Turn 1. Yuanyang quickly climbed to second and began applying pressure.

Yang locked his tyres approaching Turn 1 on the following lap and ran through the escape road, allowing Yuanyang to move ahead. Contact involving Huang at Turn 3 then produced another interruption after a car stopped in the escape road, bringing out the Safety Car.

Racing resumed with 14 minutes remaining. Feng immediately attacked Yuanyang and passed down the inside at Turn 13, only for Yuanyang to reclaim the position at the following corner. However, Yuanyang then ran wide approaching Turn 15, allowing Feng to retake the lead while Chen Sicong moved into second.

Feng controlled the remainder of the race and secured his second victory of the season by 5.047s. Chen finished second and took another CFGP victory, while Shagaliev produced one of the drives of the weekend by climbing from 12th to third.

Zhao followed in fourth ahead of Chan and Yu, while Yuanyang finished seventh. The result increased Shagaliev’s advantage over Chan further despite the former championship leader finally returning to the points.

2026 Chinese F4: Chengdu: Race 3: Shagaliev beats Zhao to second weekend victory

Zhao started Race 3 from pole after topping Friday’s second Qualifying session, but Shagaliev again produced the stronger opening lap.

The championship contender took the lead from Zhao into Turn 1 and immediately moved into control. Behind them, Chen Sicong made contact with the rear of Chan’s car at the opening corner. Chen later retired after two completed laps, while Chan continued despite damage to his rear wing.

The race remained closely fought at the front, with Zhao staying within range of Shagaliev. However, a late Safety Car ended any opportunity for a final attack after Andy Law and Ethan Bohong Liu stopped near Turn 14.

Shagaliev therefore took the chequered flag behind the Safety Car and secured his second victory of the weekend by 0.419s over Zhao. Chen Zhuyuan completed the podium, with Yu fourth and Chan fifth.

Lao Min Hao produced his strongest result of the weekend in sixth overall and took the CFGP victory, while Feng followed in seventh.

2026 Chinese F4: Chengdu: Race 4: Yu claims maiden victory

Yang started the final race of the weekend from reverse-grid pole after finishing 12th in Race 3 and successfully retained the lead at Turn 1.

The Safety Car appeared shortly afterwards when Chow Chun Shing became stranded at Turn 10. Once racing resumed, Feng attacked Liu Shangqing for second while Yu rapidly closed on the leading group.

Yu then produced the decisive move of the race. He went to the inside at the final corner and passed Feng and Yang in one sequence to take the lead.

A second Safety Car followed on lap six when Ken Chow stopped in the run-off area. Feng, who had sustained front-wing damage, also stopped on the grass and retired. Yu retained the lead when racing resumed and controlled the remaining laps to claim his maiden Chinese F4 victory.

Zhao finished only 0.874s behind in second, with Shagaliev completing the podium and adding another 15 points to his championship haul. Chen Zhuyuan took fourth, while Lao Min Hao again won CFGP in fifth overall.

Chan finished 17th after receiving a 10-second penalty, meaning his only scoring results of the Chengdu weekend came from fifth places in Race 2 and Race 3.

Championship standings after Round 4

Chengdu completely reversed the championship picture established at Ningbo. Chan arrived with a 13-point advantage over Shagaliev, but his Race 1 disqualification and difficult finale allowed his rival to produce a 60-point swing.

Shagaliev scored 80 overall points from two victories and two third-place finishes, taking him from 175 to 255. Chan added only 20 and remains on 208, leaving the pair separated by 47 points with two rounds remaining. The current top 10 is also confirmed by the post-Chengdu standings.

Yu makes another significant gain after his maiden victory and now sits third on 176. Zhao follows only one point behind after recording three consecutive podiums to end the weekend, while Chen Sicong moves to fifth on 171 despite retiring from Race 3.

Chinese F4 uses the standard FIA points structure within each of its F4, CFGP and Master categories, with drivers scored according to their finishing position within their respective class.

Shagaliev’s Chengdu results also give him a significant F4 class lead. He scored 83 class points across the four races and moves to 270, 49 ahead of Chan.

Chen Zhuyuan overtakes Yu and Zhao to move into third, while only 24 points separate third through sixth.

Chen Sicong remains firmly in control of CFGP after taking two class victories at Chengdu.

However, Yuanyang’s consistency allows him to move ahead of Zhang into second. Lao Min Hao also makes an immediate impact with two class wins during the second half of the weekend.

Andy Law remains the Master class leader despite losing his Race 1 result and retiring from Race 3.

His victories within the class in Race 2 and Race 4 take him to 243 points. Ken Chow remains second on 219 after winning the category in Race 1 and Race 3, while Jiang Wei holds third despite missing Chengdu.

Shagaliev leaves Chengdu in control

Chengdu produced the largest championship swing of the season so far. Shagaliev combined two victories with two further podiums and transformed a 13-point deficit into a 47-point lead.

Feng added another victory for Asia Racing Team RFN, helping the team move ahead of CHAMP Academy, while Yu’s breakthrough in Race 4 moved him into third in the Drivers’ Championship. Zhao also remains within one point of Yu after finishing on the podium in each of the final three races.

Chan now faces a considerably different challenge. After leading the championship through the opening three rounds, he leaves Chengdu 47 points behind Shagaliev with eight races remaining.

Chinese F4 next heads to Hunan International Circuit in Zhuzhou for Round 5, before the championship concludes at Zhuhai. The final two events therefore leave enough points available for the title battle to change again, but Shagaliev now carries a significant advantage into the decisive stage of the season.
