Pepe Martí and Cupra Kiro have announced the extension of their Formula E partnership, set to proceed throughout the upcoming season.
The Spanish driver had joined the American outlet as his first electric racing experience , debuting in his official role at the Madrid testing. Throughout the span of the 2025/2026 season, the former Campos Formula 2 driver managed to secure 66 points, becoming the most successful rookie of the season.
A proficient Formula E debut with Cupra Kiro for Martí
In spite of a rocky start, going airborne following a heavy impact during the first round of the season in São Paulo, Martí achieved several important milestones, displaying great pace, speed and feeling with his electrical challenger.
In fact, the young talent not only managed to score points in his second race in the championship, but he also went on to secure two podiums, while also having the chance to lead race laps at his home race.
The highlights of his season definitely included his maiden podium in Monaco, a race ended fourth on track but which saw him promoted following his teammate Dan Ticktum’s penalization. Martí returned on the podium in Sanya, with an on track P3 improved to second place due to Andretti’s Drugovich receiving a time penalty.
Martí was rather content to reunite with Cupra Kiro for a sophomore season in Formula E, as he commented on the announcement, remarking the accomplishments of the past season.
“I’m very excited to continue with CUPRA KIRO for the 2026/27 Formula E season. I’ve felt a huge amount of support and trust since joining the team, and together, I think we’ve built something really positive during my rookie year. Formula E has been an incredible learning experience, and I feel that I’ve grown a lot as a driver over the course of the season.”
“To have achieved top three finishes, led races, and become the first Spanish driver to stand on the Formula E podium is something I’m very proud of. I also feel like we’re only just getting started. CUPRA KIRO has big ambitions for the future, and I’m excited to be part of the journey for GEN4. I can’t wait to see what we can achieve next season.”
Strong cooperation between driver and team
While Martí’s future teammate has not been announced yet, there is still quite a bit of time ahead of the official beginning of the 2026/2027 Formula E season. The on-track action will resume on November 16th, with four days of testing at Jarama.
Cupra Kiro Team Principal Russell O’Hagan detailed the reasons behind the retention of the young Spaniard, evidencing the strong, but also pondered, performances delivered while taking his first steps into the electric racing world.
“Continuing our relationship with Pepe for the 2026/27 season was a very straightforward decision. Since the moment he joined the team, he has consistently impressed us with his talent, work ethic, and maturity. As a championship, Formula E can be particularly demanding for rookie drivers, especially at the end of a generation cycle, so our priority was always to allow Pepe the time and environment to develop without unnecessary pressure.”
A completely new challenger for 2026/2027
“The reality is, however, that he exceeded our expectations almost immediately and showed consistent performance across season. Watching Pepe grow over the course of the season was incredibly rewarding. He’s developed his understanding of Formula E’s nuances at an impressive rate, grown in confidence with every race, and delivered performances that have demonstrated exactly why we believed in him in the first place. We firmly believe he’s one of the sport’s brightest young talents and ambassadors, and that he has all the attributes to become a major force in Formula E.”
Next year, Martí will face the challenge of a completely redesigned new model of car, the Gen4, which aims to provide additional speed and overtaking power to the Formula E grid. O’Hara believes that the former Formula 3 talent will impress with the new generation of electric challengers too, setting high hopes and looking forward to another year together.
“We’re incredibly proud of everything that Pepe has achieved during his rookie season, and the team’s role in getting him up to speed. It was a big group effort. We’re equally excited that he’ll continue his journey with CUPRA KIRO as we enter GEN4. We’re only at the beginning of what we believe we can achieve together.”
