Kimi Antonelli went into the weekend knowing he faced a back of the grid start at his home race thanks to engine component changes. The Italian holds a 59-point lead over George Russell and Lewis Hamilton ahead of Sunday’s 53-lap contest.

Lando Norris was looking to make it three wins in a row following great victories in Hungary and Zandvoort.

Liam Lawson stepped into the Red Bull once more as Isack Hadjar continues to recover from his injury picked up during the summer break. Yuki Tsunoda got another go in the Kiwi’s Racing Bulls machinery.

Rookies also had an opportunity in FP1 as Paul Aron for Pierre Gasly (Alpine), Ayumu Iwasa for Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Luke Browning for Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Colton Herta for Sergio Pérez (Cadillac) got a chance to drive 2026 F1 machinery once more.
