Fortec Motorsports’ Franciszek Cegielski topped the second and final day of GB4 pre-event testing at Donington Park, narrowly beating Elite Motorsport title contender Fred Green in Friday’s combined classification.

The Polish rookie set a 1m29.743s during the second of three sessions, and that benchmark remained unbeaten through the rest of the day. Green came closest with a 1m29.762s in the final session to finish just 0.019s behind, while his new Elite Motorsport teammate Yani Stevenheydens completed the top three.

Cegielski’s time did not quite eclipse John O’Donnell’s 1m29.429s from Thursday’s opening day of testing, but the Fortec driver heads into Saturday’s competitive action having set the fastest Friday time.

Cegielski leads closely matched top three

Cegielski produced his best lap during the middle session, recording a 1m29.743s to take control of the combined classification. Green had been only 0.030s behind him during the same run before finding another 0.011s later in the afternoon, but his 1m29.762s still left him 0.019s short of the Fortec benchmark.

Stevenheydens followed only 0.041s behind Green in third with a 1m29.803s, leaving the leading three covered by just 0.060s. The Belgian is replacing the injured Emmilio Valentino Del Grosso this weekend and continued an encouraging introduction to the GB4 car after also featuring inside the top 15 on Thursday.

Fortec placed a second car inside the top four through Thomas Ingram Hill, whose 1m29.911s left him 0.168s away from his teammate. Douglas Motorsport’s Dayton Coulthard followed just 0.037s further back in fifth after setting a 1m29.948s during the final session.

O’Grady sixth as top eight remain closely grouped

Championship leader Alex O’Grady completed testing in sixth for KMR Sport, only 0.009s behind Coulthard with a 1m29.957s. His closest title rival Green therefore carried the stronger outright Friday pace, but O’Grady remained firmly inside a tightly packed group approaching Qualifying.

Conor Grant gave Douglas Motorsport a second car inside the top seven, finishing 0.299s away from Cegielski. Hillspeed’s Enzo Hallman followed only 0.009s behind Grant in eighth, while teammate Connor Willis took ninth with a 1m30.414s.

Scorpio Motorsport’s Archie Davies completed the top 10 on a 1m30.433s, leaving the leading 10 drivers separated by 0.690s. The close order extended further through the field, with the top 15 all finishing within 0.931s of Cegielski’s benchmark.

O’Donnell outside top 10 after Thursday benchmark

Thursday pacesetter O’Donnell ended Friday 14th in the combined order, with his best lap of 1m30.667s coming during the second session. Although that left him 0.924s behind Cegielski on the day, his 1m29.429s from Thursday remained the fastest lap of the entire two-day test.

Torrin Byrne finished 11th for Pace Performance ahead of teammate Josh McLean, while Elite Motorsport’s Matan Achituv took 13th. Demitri Nolan completed the group inside one second in 15th for Hillspeed, only 0.007s behind O’Donnell.

Further down the classification, Yana Kapoor completed her second day of GB4 running with Arden Motorsport and improved to a 1m37.446s. Testing now gives way to the competitive Donington Park weekend, with Qualifying set to determine the starting order for the opening races.
