Championship leader Nikola Tsolov was fastest in Free Practice earlier in the day. However, the session was drastically cut short in terms of laps for the drivers as a crash for Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak turn 19 saw his ART car catch fire. The Thai got out unharmed. Unsurprisingly, he did not make qualifying due to the damage the car sustained.
After six minutes at the end for the remaining 21 drivers, John Bennett crashed at turn 13 as the chequered flag fell.
Heading into the weekend, the Bulgarian leads Rafael Câmara by 11 points in the championship, with Gabriele Minì a further 19 back. Alex Dunne and Noel León were 4th and 5th, as only four points was the gap between them.
