The starting grid was led by Mclaren. Lando Norris sat in P1 after winning his third pole of the season on Saturday Qualifying. Behind him, Antonelli, Verstappen, Hamilton, Leclerc, Russell, Piastri, Lawson, Colapinto, and Lindblad completed the top 10.

The lights went out at the Madring for the first time, and pole-sitter Norris held the lead ahead of Antonelli and Verstappen. Hamilton, starting fourth, ran with the front group in the opening laps as Ferrari looked capable of fighting for the podium, but his race unravelled early when brake problems forced him into a premature retirement. Norris converted his pole position into a commanding lead, opening a gap of more than six seconds over Antonelli during the opening stint.

The complexion of the race changed when Stroll stopped on track, triggering a Virtual Safety Car. Antonelli, Verstappen and Russell took the advantage and pitted, but Norris had already passed the pit entry and was forced to stay out. By the time Norris did make his stop, the Virtual Safety Car had ended, and a slow seven-second pit stop compounded the delay, dropping him behind Antonelli, Verstappen and Russell in the effective running order. Leclerc, who had started on the hard tyre and delayed his own stop in hope of a full Safety Car, inherited the lead for a lengthy spell before Ferrari finally brought him in on lap 49, at which point Antonelli moved to the front for good.

Antonelli managed his hard tyres carefully through to the finish, reporting that something felt unusual with the car and later brushing the wall at Turn 7, while Verstappen kept the pressure on throughout the closing stages as Norris recovered ground rapidly during the final stint. A backmarker battle brought Verstappen and Norris together again on the penultimate lap, with Norris reporting that Verstappen had left the track and gained an advantage, though Verstappen still crossed the line 0.738 seconds clear to secure second. Antonelli ultimately took the win by 4.351 seconds, becoming the first driver to win a Formula 1 race at the Madring and extending his championship lead with an eighth victory of the season, while Norris completed the podium in third and Leclerc held off teammate Russell for fourth.
