Brady Golan secured the 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship (FRAC) Drivers’ title after a decisive penultimate round at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), transforming his 10.5-point advantage over Evagoras Papasavvas into an insurmountable 53.5-point lead with only two races remaining.
Golan finished second to Kekai Hauanio in Race 1 before passing the Crosslink Motorsports driver during a one-lap shootout to win the finale. Papasavvas, meanwhile, endured a second consecutive difficult weekend, scoring no points after contact with Cooper Shipman in the opener and crashing out of Race 2. The contrasting weekends settled the Drivers’ Championship before October’s Barber Motorsports Park finale.
Further behind, Hauanio made the largest gain among the leading drivers by scoring 43 points and closing to within 15.5 of third-placed Shipman. Luke Powers moved ahead of Christian Bogle by half a point in the fight for fifth, Alejandro Bobadilla closed to within three points of Harbir Dass, and Aidan Schuh climbed to ninth after earning his maiden FRAC podium. In the Masters Cup, Kevin Janzen completed a VIR sweep to reduce Whitney Strickland’s advantage to 16.5 points, while Toney Driver Development and Crosslink Motorsports remain separated by 14 points in the Teams’ Championship.
Golan clinches 2026 FRAC Drivers’ Championship
Golan arrived at VIR leading Papasavvas by only 10.5 points, having taken control of the standings during the previous round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. His weekend began with second place behind Hauanio in Race 1, earning 18 points and increasing his championship total from 239 to 257. With Papasavvas and Shipman both failing to score after their early collision, the result already substantially strengthened Golan’s position.
The championship was ultimately settled in Sunday’s Race 2. Papasavvas had moved ahead of Golan into second before crashing at Turn 12, leaving Golan with an opportunity to mathematically secure the title if he could win. A late Safety Car produced a one-lap shootout, and Golan passed Hauanio into Turn 1 before holding on by 0.281s. The additional 25 points increased his total to 282 and extended his advantage over Papasavvas to 53.5 points.
With only 50 points available from the two remaining races at Barber, Golan’s advantage is now mathematically insurmountable. He consequently becomes the 2026 FRAC Drivers’ Champion with one event remaining and also delivers Toney Driver Development its first FR Americas Drivers’ title.
Papasavvas remains second after scoreless VIR weekend
Papasavvas entered VIR on 228.5 points and within striking distance of Golan, but his championship challenge effectively unravelled across the two races. In the opener, he attempted to pass Shipman at Turn 4 before the pair made contact, damaging both cars and forcing them into the pits. Papasavvas subsequently finished outside the points and remained on 228.5.
Race 2 initially offered a chance to recover. Papasavvas passed Golan for second and began chasing Hauanio, but his race ended when he went off at Turn 12 and hit the tyre barrier. The retirement produced another zero and left him unchanged on 228.5 points for the entire VIR weekend.
Papasavvas therefore remains second in the Drivers’ Championship but now trails Golan by 53.5 points. His attention at Barber will instead turn to protecting the runner-up position, with Shipman 26.5 points behind and Hauanio another 15.5 further back.
Shipman strengthens third despite difficult weekend
Shipman also endured a challenging penultimate round but remains third in the championship. He arrived at VIR with 192 points and initially appeared well placed after qualifying second, only 0.134s behind Golan. However, his Race 1 hopes ended almost immediately when contact with Papasavvas left him with a damaged tyre and cost him eight laps while Kiwi Motorsport carried out repairs.
The rookie recovered with fifth place in Race 2, adding 10 points to his season total and moving from 192 to 202. While the result leaves him 26.5 points behind Papasavvas, it also keeps him 15.5 ahead of the rapidly closing Hauanio with 50 points still available.
Shipman therefore retains third heading to Barber, but unlike the already-decided championship at the front, the battle immediately behind Golan remains open.
Hauanio closes rapidly after 43-point VIR haul
Hauanio produced one of the strongest weekends of his season and matched Golan’s 43-point haul across the two races. The Crosslink rookie entered VIR fourth on 143.5 points before passing Golan late in Race 1 to secure his third victory of the year and another 25 points.
He then led most of Race 2 and appeared on course to complete the weekend sweep before the late Safety Car eliminated a lead of more than four seconds. Golan passed him at the final restart, but second place still delivered another 18 points and Hauanio’s eighth podium of 2026. His championship total consequently rises from 143.5 to 186.5.
Hauanio remains fourth, but his 43-point weekend has transformed the fight for third. He entered VIR 48.5 points behind Shipman and now trails the Kiwi Motorsport driver by only 15.5. He has also moved 33.5 points clear of Powers immediately behind him.
Powers moves ahead of Bogle by half a point
The fight between Toney Driver Development teammates Powers and Bogle remains exceptionally close, although VIR reversed their positions. Bogle entered the weekend fifth on 140.5 points, 2.5 ahead of Powers, but his Race 1 ended without points after a problem caused him to slow on circuit.
Powers capitalised by recovering from 10th during the opening stages to finish third, collecting 15 points and recording his fifth podium of the season. However, he failed to add to that total in Race 2 and leaves VIR on 153 points.
Bogle responded with fourth in Sunday’s finale, scoring 12 points and increasing his total to 152.5. Powers therefore moves from sixth to fifth, but only half a point now separates the teammates heading into the final two races.
Bobadilla closes to within three points of Dass
Dass retains seventh in the Drivers’ Championship after scoring in both VIR races. The Kiwi Motorsport rookie added eight points in Race 1 and another four in the finale, increasing his total from 96 to 108.
However, Bobadilla made a larger gain immediately behind him. The Crosslink rookie collected 12 points from fourth in Race 1 before adding another six in Race 2. His 18-point weekend increases his total from 87 to 105 and reduces the gap to Dass from nine points after CTMP to only three.
The pair therefore remain seventh and eighth respectively, but their battle has tightened considerably with 50 points still available at Barber.
Schuh climbs to ninth after maiden podium
Schuh produced his strongest FRAC weekend to date and made the largest positional gain inside the top 10. He opened the weekend with fifth place and 10 points before avoiding the incidents around him in Race 2 to finish third, earning his first career FRAC podium and another 15 points.
His 25-point VIR haul moves him from 66 to 91 points and lifts him from 10th to ninth in the standings. James Lawley, who did not compete at VIR, remains on 71 and consequently drops to 10th, leaving Schuh with a 20-point advantage heading into the finale.
Eric Wisniewski remains 11th but also made substantial progress. He scored six points in Race 1 and eight in Race 2, taking his total from 32 to 46 and reducing his deficit to Lawley to 25 points. Barrett Wolfe did not compete and remains 12th on 30.
Arana scores maiden points as Zelaya climbs
The lower section of the standings also changed after several drivers capitalised at VIR. Whitney Strickland did not compete and remains 13th overall on 19 points, while Janzen added one overall point in each race to move from 13.5 to 15.5 and retain 14th.
Aiden Zelaya collected two points during the weekend and increases his total from six to eight. He consequently climbs from 17th to 15th, moving ahead of Anthony Autiello on seven and Jonathan Cottrill on six.
Robert Arana Jr also opened his FRAC points account during only his second championship weekend. Eighth place in Race 1 earned four points before he added another two in the finale, moving him from zero to six and into 18th. Jake Pollack is now the only classified driver yet to score, remaining 19th with zero points.

Golan’s 53.5-point advantage mathematically secures the Drivers’ Championship, but several positions behind him remain unsettled. Papasavvas holds a 26.5-point advantage over Shipman for second, while Hauanio sits only 15.5 behind third. Powers and Bogle are separated by just half a point, and only three points divide Dass and Bobadilla in seventh and eighth.
Janzen cuts Masters Cup deficit with VIR sweep
Janzen arrived at VIR 40.5 points behind Strickland in the Masters Cup but took full advantage of his rival’s absence. He won the class in both races, earning the maximum 12 points on Saturday and another 12 on Sunday. His perfect 24-point weekend increases his total from 100.5 to 124.5.
Strickland remains championship leader on 141 points but saw his advantage reduced significantly without competing at VIR. The gap consequently falls from 40.5 after CTMP to 16.5 with two races remaining, leaving 24 Masters Cup points available at Barber.
Autiello also did not compete and remains third on 91 points. Janzen has therefore increased his advantage over Autiello from 9.5 to 33.5 points while simultaneously bringing himself back into contention for the title.

Strickland therefore carries a 16.5-point advantage into the final two races. Unlike the overall Drivers’ Championship, the Masters Cup remains mathematically open and will be decided at Barber.
Toney and Crosslink remain separated by 14 points
The Teams’ Championship remains almost exactly as finely balanced as it was before VIR. Toney Driver Development entered the weekend 14 points ahead of Crosslink Motorsports, leading 468 to 454, and both teams added exactly 70 points across the two races.
Toney scored 33 points in Race 1 and 37 in Race 2, increasing its total to 538. Crosslink produced the opposite pattern, collecting 37 in the opener and 33 in the finale to reach 524. The result means neither team gained anything on the other across the weekend and Toney’s advantage remains unchanged at 14 points heading into Barber.
The championship will therefore be decided at the season finale. Although Golan has already delivered Toney its first FRAC Drivers’ Championship, Crosslink remains firmly within reach of denying the team a championship double.
Kiwi remains third as JENSEN moves forward
Kiwi Motorsport remains comfortably third in the Teams’ standings, increasing its total from 288 after CTMP to 312 following VIR. The team therefore added 24 points across the penultimate event but remains well behind the two championship contenders.
Atlantic Racing Team remains fourth and moves from 73 to 79 points, while Hillenburg Motorsports increases its total from 48 to 56. JENSEN makes the largest positional improvement further down the order, moving from eight to 14 points and climbing to sixth ahead of Momentum Motorsports and MLT Motorsports.
Momentum remains on seven points and drops to seventh, while MLT remains eighth on six. The primary championship contest, however, continues to centre on Toney and Crosslink, with only 14 points separating them before the final two races.

Toney consequently retains the same 14-point advantage it carried into VIR. With both teams scoring 70 points during the weekend, their championship battle remains unresolved and will continue into the final two races at Barber.
VIR settles Drivers’ title but leaves other battles open
Round 7 produced the decisive swing in a Drivers’ Championship that had remained close throughout much of the season. Golan arrived only 10.5 points ahead of Papasavvas but leaves VIR with the title secured after outscoring his rival 43–0. His total now stands at 282, while Papasavvas remains on 228.5 and can no longer overhaul him with only 50 points available.
However, the standings behind the champion remain considerably less settled. Shipman, Hauanio, Powers and Bogle are separated by 49.5 points from third through sixth, with Hauanio’s strong VIR weekend placing him firmly into the fight for a top-three championship finish. Dass and Bobadilla are divided by only three points, while Schuh’s maiden podium has moved him comfortably into ninth.
The other two championship contests also remain alive. Janzen’s double Masters Cup victory cut Strickland’s lead to 16.5 points, while Toney and Crosslink remain only 14 apart in the Teams’ Championship. FRAC now heads to Barber Motorsports Park for Rounds 20 and 21 from October 16–18, where the final championship positions, Masters Cup title and Teams’ Championship will be decided.
