Kimi Chan significantly reduced Timur Shagaliev’s 2026 Chinese F4 Championship advantage during Round 5 at Hunan International Circuit, taking two victories as the title fight tightened ahead of the season finale.
Chan entered the weekend 47 points behind Shagaliev after enduring a difficult Round 4 at Chengdu. However, the CHAMP Academy driver responded with two pole positions, two victories, a second-place finish and fourth in the finale to score 80 points across the four races.
Yu Yan opened the weekend with victory for Black Blade Racing before Chan won Races 2 and 3. Chen Sicong then completed the round by taking his second overall victory of the season in Race 4. Meanwhile, Shagaliev claimed three podiums but failed to finish the finale, reducing his championship advantage to 18 points.
Shagaliev now leads Chan by 306 points to 288, while Yu strengthens his hold on third with 239. Chen Sicong moves to 229 in fourth, ahead of Chen Zhuyuan on 198. The weekend also changed the Teams’ Championship order, with Black Blade Racing moving five points clear of CHAMP Academy and ten ahead of Asia Racing Team RFN.

2026 Chinese F4: Hunan: Race 1: Yu capitalises after early Chan-Shagaliev battle
Chan started the opening race from pole, but Shagaliev immediately challenged his championship rival.
The pair fought through the opening sequence before making contact at Turn 6. Their battle created an opportunity for Yu, who moved ahead of both drivers. Chan lost several positions and fell to eighth, while Lao climbed into second and Shagaliev continued among the leaders.
However, the race changed again on lap three. Jiang Wei and Ken Chow became stranded on the circuit, prompting officials to display the red flag.
Race control subsequently resumed the contest with a standing start and restored the original starting order. Chan therefore returned to pole, but Yu immediately challenged the CHAMP Academy driver and passed him on the straight between Turns 2 and 3.
Yu maintained the advantage for the remainder of the race and secured his second Chinese F4 victory of the season. Chan recovered from the earlier drama to take second, 1.015s behind, while Shagaliev completed the podium.
Lao took fourth overall and the CFGP victory, followed by Feng and Chen Sicong. Liu finished seventh, while Chen Zhuyuan recovered from his Qualifying disqualification to eighth.
Turkin finished 11th overall and won the Master category.

2026 Chinese F4: Hunan: Race 2: Chan charges from 11th to victory
The reverse-grid second race presented Chan with a very different challenge.
Huang Xiaofeng started from pole after finishing 12th in Race 1, but Turkin immediately moved ahead at the start. Chan, meanwhile, produced an exceptional opening lap from 11th and climbed eight positions to third.
Chan continued his progress on lap two, overtaking Chen Sicong for second at Turn 11 before turning his attention towards Turkin. Two laps later, the championship contender completed the move for the lead at Turn 5.
Shagaliev and Chen Sicong subsequently passed Turkin as well, establishing the eventual leading trio.
Feng then stopped on track with 19 minutes remaining, triggering a Safety Car. Once racing resumed, Chan controlled the final 15 minutes and claimed his sixth victory of the season.
Shagaliev finished 2.992s behind in second and limited the championship damage, while Chen Sicong completed the overall podium and secured the CFGP victory.
Chen Zhuyuan took fourth ahead of Lao, while Yu finished sixth. Turkin eventually crossed the line ninth and again led the Master category.

2026 Chinese F4: Hunan: Race 3: Chan completes weekend double
Chan returned to pole for the third race and converted his second Qualifying advantage into another victory.
Yu started alongside him but immediately faced pressure from Shagaliev. The Black Blade Racing driver ran wide at Turn 3 on the opening lap, allowing the championship leader to move into second.
An early collision between Law and Qi brought out the Safety Car on lap two. Chan maintained the lead at the restart and resisted Shagaliev, while the positions behind them continued to change.
The race required a second neutralisation on lap nine after Feng and Lao both became stranded on track.
After another restart, Chen Zhuyuan attacked Yu and moved down the inside at Turn 3 to take third. However, the race ultimately finished behind the Safety Car after contact between Liu and Chow Chun Shing.
Chan therefore secured his second victory of the weekend by 0.361s over Shagaliev. Chen Zhuyuan completed the podium, while Yu settled for fourth.
Chen Sicong finished fifth and claimed another CFGP win, while Turkin continued his perfect Master record for the weekend from seventh overall.

2026 Chinese F4: Hunan: Race 4: Chen Sicong wins dramatic finale
Only 11 drivers finished Race 3, placing Ken Chow on reverse-grid pole for the final contest.
However, the race immediately descended into drama at Turn 1. A multi-car incident involved Shagaliev, Turkin, Zhang and Tian, forcing officials to stop the race. Crucially for the championship, Shagaliev could not continue.
Officials resumed the race with a rolling start following a lap behind the Safety Car. Chen Sicong wasted little time attacking Chow and passed him on the run towards Turn 3. Yu followed soon afterwards and moved into second.
The Safety Car returned on lap 11 after Chow Chun Shing stopped near the pit exit. Once racing resumed with only four minutes remaining, Lao overtook Feng at Turn 5 to claim third.
Chen remained clear at the front and secured his second outright victory of 2026. The Black Blade Racing driver finished 1.701s ahead of teammate Yu, completing a one-two finish for the team.
Lao took his first overall podium in third, while Chan finished fourth. That result proved particularly important because Shagaliev scored no points.
Liu completed the top five ahead of Feng, while Ken Chow recovered from pole to finish seventh and secure the Master victory.

Championship standings after Round 5

Yu also produced a major haul. His victory, sixth, fourth and second-place finishes added 63 points and moved him to 239. Chen Sicong climbs to fourth with 229 after scoring 58 points, including his Race 4 victory.

Hunan produced another major shift in a championship that has changed considerably across the second half of the season.
At Chengdu, Shagaliev transformed a 13-point deficit into a 47-point advantage as Chan struggled. Three weeks later, Chan answered with his strongest round since the opening stages of the campaign and recovered 29 points against his title rival.
Shagaliev still leads with 306 points, but an 18-point advantage leaves the championship firmly open. Chan heads to the finale with momentum after his double victory, while Yu sits 67 points from the lead and remains mathematically involved with four races remaining.
Black Blade Racing also heads to Zhuhai with a narrow Teams’ Championship lead after Yu and Chen Sicong combined for two victories at Hunan. However, only ten points separate Black Blade, CHAMP Academy and Asia Racing Team RFN.
The 2026 Chinese F4 calendar now concludes at Zhuhai International Circuit from 16–18 October, where Races 21–24 will determine the final championship order.
