Hitech has confirmed that Woohyun Shin will remain with the team for the 2027 FIA Formula 3 (F3) Championship, with the South Korean set to embark on his second full season in the series.
Shin raced with the British outfit throughout the 2026 campaign, building further experience in the championship after previously competing in FIA Formula 3.
The 2027 season will give Shin the opportunity to build on his first full campaign and use the experience gained across the year to target further progress.
Before making the move into FIA Formula 3, Shin enjoyed a strong run in Euroformula Open. He finished third in the 2025 championship, improving on the fifth-place result he achieved in the series in 2024.
Shin also competed in the 2024 Formula Regional Oceania Championship (now known as CTFROT), finishing fourth in the standings.
With a full FIA Formula 3 season now under his belt, Shin believes remaining with Hitech will provide the continuity needed to make another step forward.
“There are particular aspects to the FIA Formula 3 championship that make it very competitive and challenging. I felt that there would be more to come from me by staying another year and further working on those areas in a familiar environment.
“I want to thank the team for believing in me and making it possible to continue our journey together.”
Shin’s 2026 F3 experience to prove vital in 2027
Hitech F3 Team Manager Paul Bellringer said the experience Shin has gained during his 2026 campaign will be valuable heading into his second year.
“We’re pleased to continue our relationship with Michael into the 2027 FIA Formula 3 season. This year has been an important learning process for him, returning to FIA F3 for a full campaign after his previous experience in the championship.
“Michael has had to learn a lot throughout the season, from the car and tyres to the level of competition and the demands of racing at this level. Having that experience behind him will be valuable heading into his second year.
“We know Michael well from his previous time with Hitech, and we believe there is a lot more to come from him. Continuity is important in Formula 3, and giving him another season with the team will allow us to build on the work we have already done together.
“We’re looking forward to seeing Michael take the next step in 2027 and continuing his development with Hitech.”
Shin will now enter his second full FIA F3 campaign with Hitech, looking to turn his experience from 2026 into stronger results in 2027.
