Abt Sportsline and Lamborghini will continue their DTM partnership in 2027 after agreeing a multi-year extension that will also expand their collaboration across other motorsport programmes. Red Bull Team Abt will once again field two Lamborghini Temerario GT3s in the DTM, with the team setting its sights on returning to championship contention after a development-focused first season with the new car.

The extension reinforces a partnership that has continued to grow in recent years and gives Abt greater continuity as it develops the Temerario package. The Kempten-based operation introduced the car to the DTM in 2026 and has so far scored two podium finishes during its first campaign with Lamborghini’s latest GT3 model.

Alongside the DTM programme, Abt will expand its involvement with Lamborghini in 2027 by entering the Temerario GT3 at the Nürburgring 24 Hours for the first time and running two cars in Lamborghini Super Trofeo. The DTM nevertheless remains a central part of the partnership, with Abt making clear that it wants to fight for another title next season.

Abt targets return to DTM title contention

Abt has competed continuously in the DTM since 2000 and has become one of the championship’s most successful organisations during more than 25 years in the series. Across its time in the DTM, the team has collected 10 titles between the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships and established itself as one of the championship’s longest-standing competitors.

The switch to the Temerario GT3 for 2026 nevertheless required the team to undertake a significant learning process. Lamborghini introduced the car for the new season, leaving Abt to develop its understanding of an unfamiliar package while competing in one of Europe’s most closely contested GT championships.

Two podium finishes have provided the strongest results so far, but Abt CEO Thomas Biermaier believes the knowledge gained throughout 2026 can provide the foundation for a more ambitious challenge next season.

“The long-term continuation of our partnership with Lamborghini is a very significant step for Abt,” Biermaier said. “Lamborghini is an extraordinary brand with a huge profile, and we are proud to not only be able to continue this cooperation in the coming years, but to expand it.”

He highlighted the progress made during the Temerario’s debut season despite the challenges associated with introducing a new car.

“Our partnership with Lamborghini has developed continuously in recent years. The first DTM season together with the Temerario GT3 has been a year of intense learning for us in many areas. Lining up with a completely new car in such a fiercely-contested series is a big challenge.”

Lessons from 2026 to shape next season

Abt has steadily developed its understanding of the Temerario as the season has progressed, with the team using race weekends to refine both performance and operational knowledge. The two podiums have demonstrated the car’s potential, but Biermaier expects the off-season to play an important role in converting those lessons into a more consistent championship challenge.

“At the same time, we have made great progress over the course of the season, have finished on the podium, and have learned an awful lot about the car,” he explained. “We will now draw on those experiences and continue to work hard over the winter.”

The objective for 2027 is considerably more ambitious than simply continuing development. Abt wants to return to the title fight and add another championship to its extensive DTM record.

“The objective for 2027 is clear. Together with Red Bull and Lamborghini, we want to challenge for the championship again, and to bring another title back to Kempten.”

Lamborghini expands Abt programme beyond DTM

The renewed agreement will also broaden Abt’s role within Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s wider racing activities. While the two-car DTM programme remains a central element, Abt will take the Temerario GT3 to the Nürburgring 24 Hours for the first time and add a two-car Lamborghini Super Trofeo effort.

For Lamborghini, the expanded programme provides an opportunity to work more closely with a team that brings extensive experience from several eras of the DTM and a long record in top-level motorsport.

Andrea Reggiani, Head of Motorsport at Lamborghini Squadra Corse, described the extended agreement as an important step in developing the manufacturer’s competition activities.

“The long-term extension of the cooperation with Abt is an important step for Lamborghini Squadra Corse,” Reggiani said. “Abt has decades of experience of motorsport at the highest level, and brings with it the desire to consistently develop this kind of programme.”

Lamborghini also views Abt’s first season with the Temerario as an important development phase for both organisations rather than simply a results-driven campaign.

“The first season together with the Temerario GT3 produced many valuable findings for both sides. In 2027, we will significantly expand this cooperation.”

Nürburgring 24 Hours added to programme

The Nürburgring 24 Hours represents one of the biggest additions to the expanded relationship. Abt will field a Temerario GT3 at the endurance classic for the first time, adding another major competitive environment in which Lamborghini can develop and demonstrate the car.

The programme will complement Abt’s continued DTM involvement while also giving the partnership exposure to a different style of racing, with the Nürburgring’s long-distance format and demanding Nordschleife providing a considerably different challenge from the DTM’s sprint races.

“The DTM remains a central component,” Reggiani said. “At the same time, Abt will run the Temerario GT3 at the Nürburgring 24 Hours for the first time, and line up with two cars in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo.”

The Super Trofeo programme further expands the relationship beyond GT3 racing and gives Abt another role within Lamborghini’s customer racing structure.

Driver line-up still to be announced

Red Bull Team Abt has not yet confirmed who will drive its two Lamborghini Temerario GT3s during the 2027 DTM season. The team will announce its driver line-up at a later date as preparations continue for the second year of the car’s competition programme.

The continuity provided by the multi-year agreement should allow Abt and Lamborghini to build directly on the development work completed throughout 2026. After spending the Temerario’s first DTM season learning the new package and securing two podium finishes, the partnership now enters its next phase with championship ambitions and a significantly broader motorsport programme.

For Abt, the target remains consistent with the standard established during more than a quarter of a century in the DTM: turning experience into results and returning the Kempten operation to the top of the championship.
