Schubert Motorsport will make its International GT Open debut at the 2026 season finale in Barcelona, fielding a BMW M4 GT3 EVO for Polish drivers Hubert Darmetko and Fabian Dybionka in the Pro-Am category.
The Oschersleben-based German outfit will join the championship for the first time on 23–25 October, bringing extensive GT3 experience and a successful record in the DTM. Its arrival provides Darmetko and Dybionka with an opportunity to return to competition after their previous campaign with PTT Racing ended prematurely following a serious accident during private testing at Monza.
The Polish pairing had contested much of the 2026 season with PTT Racing, securing a Pro-Am podium at Misano before suffering the setback ahead of September’s Monza GT Open 500. Their switch to Schubert Motorsport will now allow them to conclude the campaign together in competitive BMW machinery.
Schubert Motorsport expands into International GT Open
Schubert Motorsport’s Barcelona debut represents another addition to its international GT racing programme, with the German team bringing considerable experience from several leading sportscar championships.
The outfit has established a strong reputation through its BMW racing activities, particularly in the DTM, where it secured the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships in 2022. Sheldon van der Linde claimed the Drivers’ title during Schubert’s debut DTM season, while the team added another Teams’ Championship in 2024 after collecting four race victories.
Schubert has continued its involvement in the championship throughout 2026, fielding BMW M4 GT3 EVO entries for Marco Wittmann and Kelvin van der Linde. The German team’s revised DTM line-up brought together two experienced factory drivers as it sought to challenge for further championship success.
Beyond the DTM, Schubert has also competed in major endurance events, including the Nürburgring 24 Hours, strengthening its experience with BMW’s GT3 machinery.
The move into International GT Open will now introduce the team to another competitive European championship, where its experience could prove valuable as Darmetko and Dybionka return to the Pro-Am field.
Darmetko and Dybionka return after Monza testing accident
Darmetko and Dybionka originally entered the 2026 International GT Open season with PTT Racing, which announced a full-season BMW M4 GT3 EVO programme earlier in the year.
The Polish team had planned to contest the championship after enjoying success in other GT Sport competitions, including the 2021 GT Cup Europe Overall title and the 2025 GT Winter Series Championship.
However, the programme suffered a major setback during September’s Monza event. An accident involving another competitor during private testing caused irreparable damage to PTT Racing’s car, preventing the team from participating in the GT Open 500.
The incident brought an unexpected interruption to the pairing’s campaign, despite the progress they had demonstrated during the preceding rounds.
The Monza GT Open 500 formed a particularly important part of the championship, offering double points through its single 500-kilometre endurance contest. Missing the event therefore denied the Polish drivers an opportunity to strengthen their position before the final round.
Schubert Motorsport’s arrival at Barcelona will now give Darmetko and Dybionka a chance to return to the grid rather than end their season following the Monza accident.
Polish duo builds on competitive 2026 campaign
Darmetko and Dybionka entered International GT Open following experience in Porsche one-make competitions, bringing together different levels of GT racing experience.
The pair made their championship debut at Spa-Francorchamps in May, joining the field for the season’s first 500-kilometre endurance contest. Although their first appearance presented several challenges, they demonstrated encouraging pace and gained valuable experience in BMW GT3 machinery.
Their strongest result followed at Misano in June, where they secured third place in Pro-Am during Saturday’s opening race. The result also placed them eighth overall, providing the pairing with their first International GT Open podium in only their second appearance.
They subsequently continued their campaign at the Hungaroring, collecting further championship points despite encountering difficult race circumstances. Their performances demonstrated steady progress as the season developed, although they faced strong competition in an increasingly competitive Pro-Am category.
By the time the championship reached Monza, Darmetko and Dybionka had accumulated 21 Pro-Am points, placing them among the midfield contenders in the standings.
Their return with Schubert Motorsport will allow the pair to build on that experience, although they must quickly establish an effective working relationship with their new team during the final weekend.
Barcelona finale provides opportunity to end season strongly
The 2026 International GT Open season will conclude at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 23–25 October, bringing the eight-round campaign to an end.
The championship returns to its regular sprint format following the Monza GT Open 500, with two races scheduled for the weekend. The Barcelona event will also determine the remaining championship honours across the Pro, Pro-Am and Am categories.
The Monza finale results left several titles undecided, ensuring that the final round will feature intense competition among the leading contenders.
For Schubert Motorsport, the weekend will provide an opportunity to establish itself in International GT Open while assessing its competitiveness against the championship’s regular teams. The outfit’s extensive experience with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO should provide a useful foundation, although Barcelona will introduce different competitive and sporting requirements.
Meanwhile, Darmetko and Dybionka will aim to return to the Pro-Am podium after an interrupted campaign with PTT Racing. Their familiarity with BMW machinery and experience from the earlier rounds should help them adapt to the new operation.
Although Schubert Motorsport has only confirmed its participation in the Barcelona finale, the appearance adds another established international GT racing team to the grid. For the Polish pairing, it offers an opportunity to conclude the 2026 season on a stronger note after their unexpected Monza setback.
