Toby Campbell will make his single-seater racing debut with KMR Sport during the inaugural 2026 GB4 Winter Series at Snetterton on 24–25 October. The 18-year-old from Liverpool has secured his first competitive opportunity in car racing following years of independently funding his motorsport ambitions through part-time work and entrepreneurial ventures.
Campbell joins the multiple championship-winning outfit for the four-race event after attracting sponsorship support from Proceed Group, Smiling Wolf and Fixture. Despite limited testing experience, the British driver hopes to demonstrate his potential as he makes the transition from karting to single-seater competition.
Campbell’s unconventional journey from rental karting to single-seaters
Unlike many young drivers who progress through established karting programmes, Campbell has largely financed his own racing career. His interest in motorsport began at nine after watching racing videos on YouTube, inspiring him to begin rental karting at TeamSport in Liverpool.
However, financial constraints initially limited his opportunities. Determined to spend more time on track, Campbell began a paper round at 12, using his earnings to fund additional karting sessions.
As his ambitions developed, he started building and selling computers to generate further income. He subsequently secured a weekend job, allowing him to finance a season of national karting competition in the United Kingdom.
Campbell’s determination eventually opened the door to car racing. A free test in a Ginetta GT Academy car strengthened his interest in making the transition, prompting him to invest additional earnings into GB4 single-seater testing.
Sponsorship support secures GB4 Winter Series opportunity
After completing his A Levels, Campbell focused on securing the financial support required to make his competitive car racing debut.
His efforts attracted backing from Proceed Group, Smiling Wolf and Fixture, enabling him to secure a seat with KMR Sport for the inaugural Winter Series.
Although Campbell has completed some GB4 testing, he recognises the challenges of entering single-seater competition with considerably less experience than several of his rivals. Nevertheless, he remains confident in his abilities and hopes to achieve competitive results at Snetterton.
“I’m really excited to be making my car racing debut in the GB4 Winter Series with multiple championship-winning team KMR Sport. I am so grateful for the support from my sponsors, which has allowed me to take this next step in my career. Although my testing has been limited, I feel confident in my ability, and I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running at Snetterton and bringing home some strong results.”
Mills praises Campbell’s determination ahead of debut
Campbell joins a KMR Sport operation with extensive experience in developing young single-seater drivers. The team most recently guided Alex O’Grady to the 2026 GB4 Drivers’ Championship after a closely contested title battle with Elite Motorsport’s Fred Green. O’Grady secured three victories and nine podium finishes on his way to the championship.
Team Principal Kevin Mills welcomed Campbell’s arrival, emphasising the commitment that enabled the Liverpool driver to progress despite significant financial obstacles.
“Toby is one of the most determined drivers we’ve worked with and we’re really pleased that we’ve been able to create an opportunity for him to give car racing a go at Snetterton. He’s had to work super hard for this opportunity, and while his experience levels are lower than many of the drivers that will be on the grid, his dedication will more than make up for it. There will be plenty of people rooting for him during the Winter Series and he deserves some good results.”
Campbell joins experienced KMR Sport Winter Series line-up
Campbell will compete alongside drivers with varying levels of experience as KMR Sport prepares for the inaugural event.
The team’s Winter Series entry also includes Solenn Amrouche, who contested the full 2026 GB4 season, and Lewis Goff, who graduates from Ginetta Junior competition. Goff’s move, provides another example of the team’s commitment to developing emerging talent.
For Campbell, competing alongside drivers with previous car racing experience will offer an opportunity to accelerate his development. Furthermore, KMR Sport’s championship-winning expertise should prove valuable as he adapts to unfamiliar machinery and the demands of competitive single-seater racing.
Although his preparation has been limited, the weekend will provide important experience as he considers the next stages of his motorsport career.
Snetterton presents four-race challenge
The inaugural GB4 Winter Series will take place on the Snetterton 300 circuit, featuring two qualifying sessions and four races across 24–25 October.
Saturday will feature qualifying followed by two 20-minute races, with the championship repeating the format on Sunday. Unlike the regular GB4 season, the Winter Series will not feature reverse-grid contests. Instead, drivers’ fastest and second-fastest qualifying laps will determine their starting positions for each day’s races.
Consequently, Campbell must quickly develop his qualifying pace while adapting to racing against a competitive field of experienced drivers and fellow newcomers.
The event represents the culmination of years of determination and financial sacrifice for the Liverpool youngster. Having progressed from rental karting through his own fundraising efforts, Campbell now has the opportunity to demonstrate his potential on a national single-seater stage.
