Lando Norris-backed LN4 Fusion has secured a place on the FIA F2 grid for the 2027–2029 seasons, marking another major milestone in the organisation’s ambitious expansion across junior single-seater racing. The newly established team will replace AIX Racing, while ten existing competitors will retain their places as the championship maintains its 22-car grid.
The confirmation comes less than two months after LN4 Fusion officially launched in September 2026. Since then, the organisation has made significant progress in establishing its racing programmes, recruiting experienced personnel and developing the infrastructure required to compete across several international championships.
The successful application completes a crucial stage of LN4 Fusion’s long-term vision, creating a structured pathway from F4 through Formula Regional and F3 to F2. Meanwhile, the organisation will prepare for its debut alongside some of the most established teams in junior motorsport as the championship introduces updated machinery for 2027.
LN4 Fusion celebrates successful F2 application
LN4 Fusion confirmed its selection on Wednesday, 28 October, following the championship’s announcement of the 11 teams that will compete during the next three-year cycle.
The decision represents an important achievement for the newly established operation, which had previously outlined its intention to compete in F2 but still needed approval through the championship’s selection process.
Furthermore, the successful application provides LN4 Fusion with a long-term position in the final category before F1, allowing the organisation to continue developing its sporting and technical operations over the next three seasons.
Richards sees F2 entry as ‘significant milestone’
LN4 Fusion Chief Executive Officer Dan Richards welcomed the announcement, highlighting the progress the organisation has made since its launch.
“We are incredibly proud to have been selected to join the FIA Formula 2 grid for 2027. This is a significant milestone for LN4 Fusion and an important step towards delivering the vision we set out when we launched the team in September.
“From the outset, our ambition has been to build a competitive, sustainable motorsport organisation with a clear development pathway for drivers and an environment in which talented people can succeed. Formula 2 is central to that ambition, representing the final and arguably most demanding stage of preparation before Formula 1.
“To have secured a place in the championship so soon after launching LN4 Fusion is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of everyone involved in bringing this project together.
“However, it is only the beginning. We recognise the level of competition in Formula 2 and the challenge ahead of us. Our focus is now firmly on building the right foundations, surrounding ourselves with exceptional people and giving our drivers and team the best possible opportunity to compete at the highest level.
“We are enormously grateful to Bruno Michel, the FIA and the Formula 2 organisation for their confidence in our project, and we look forward to becoming part of the championship in 2027.”
With its championship entry now confirmed, LN4 Fusion will turn its attention towards completing the preparations required for its inaugural campaign. The team must finalise its driver line-up, develop its engineering operations and establish itself within an already competitive field.
Norris-backed team strengthens junior single-seater development pathway
LN4 Fusion’s successful F2 application represents another important step in the wider motorsport project co-founded by reigning F1 World Champion Lando Norris. The organisation officially launched in September 2026 alongside the independently funded LN4 Legacy Programme, with both initiatives aiming to create greater opportunities for emerging racing talent.
While LN4 Fusion will operate the racing teams, the LN4 Legacy Programme focuses on supporting young drivers who face financial barriers to progressing through motorsport. Norris outlined his plans for LN4 Fusion’s expansion earlier this year, establishing a long-term vision that combines competitive racing programmes with driver development.
The organisation has already secured entries in Italian F4, FREC and FIA F3 for 2027. Furthermore, its British operation continues working towards a potential British F4 programme, having already begun testing ahead of a possible championship entry.
LN4 Fusion also recently secured its place on the 2027 FREC grid, joining established junior racing organisations including PREMA Racing, ART Grand Prix and MP Motorsport.
Consequently, the F2 confirmation completes the team’s planned presence across the principal stages of international junior single-seater racing.
The announcement also carries personal significance for Norris, who competed in F2 with Carlin in 2018 before making his F1 debut with McLaren the following season. Having secured the 2025 F1 World Drivers’ Championship, Norris became the first graduate of the modern F2 championship to claim the F1 title.
His involvement in LN4 Fusion now offers an opportunity to support drivers progressing through the same development system that helped prepare him for his own F1 career.
LN4 Fusion replaces AIX Racing as ten teams retain F2 places
LN4 Fusion will join the F2 grid in place of AIX Racing, becoming the only newcomer selected for the 2027–2029 championship cycle. The organisation previously acquired selected assets from AIX Racing, including its F3 entry, while separately applying for an F2 place.
However, unlike the F3 programme, its participation in F2 remained dependent on approval through the championship’s formal selection process. With that application now successful, LN4 Fusion can proceed with preparations for its debut in the category.
Meanwhile, F2 has retained ten teams from the 2026 grid, including ART Grand Prix, Campos Racing, DAMS, Hitech, Invicta Racing, MP Motorsport, PREMA Racing, Rodin Motorsport, TRIDENT and Van Amersfoort Racing.
FIA F2 CEO Bruno Michel welcomed the new organisation while emphasising the strength of the championship’s existing competitors.
“We received strong interest from teams around the world for this new three-year cycle, underlining the strength and appeal of our Championship. We have retained ten of our current teams, who have consistently demonstrated their commitment to providing the best possible environment for young drivers to prepare for Formula 1.
“I am also pleased to welcome LN4 Fusion to the grid. They will bring considerable expertise, and I am confident they will make a valuable contribution to the Championship.”
The selection provides continuity for the championship while introducing a new organisation with substantial experience among its senior personnel. Furthermore, each team will continue fielding two cars, maintaining the established 22-driver grid throughout the three-year period.

Experienced leadership to oversee LN4 Fusion’s F2 debut
Although LN4 Fusion is a new organisation, its management structure includes several experienced figures from international junior racing.
Former PREMA Racing Team Principal René Rosin will lead the team’s sporting programme, while Guillaume Capietto will serve as Racing Director. Both bring considerable experience from PREMA’s junior single-seater operations, having worked across several categories and contributed to the development of numerous drivers progressing towards F1. Their knowledge will provide LN4 Fusion with an established foundation as the organisation prepares to compete against teams with extensive experience in F2.
Meanwhile, Richards will continue overseeing the organisation’s wider development and long-term strategy.
LN4 Fusion has also made progress with its F3 programme, confirming James Egozi, Gabriel Gomez and Dion Gowda as its three drivers for 2027. The line-up provides the team with an established starting point for its first F3 campaign, while its other junior racing programmes continue taking shape.
However, LN4 Fusion has yet to announce its inaugural F2 driver pairing. Finalising those appointments will represent another important step as the organisation prepares for the 2027 season.
Updated F2 machinery introduces additional challenge for 2027
LN4 Fusion will enter F2 during a significant technical transition, with the championship introducing an updated car for the next three-year cycle.
The revised F2 machinery made its first public appearance at Monza in September 2026, featuring aerodynamic developments aimed at improving racing and bringing its appearance closer to the latest generation of F1 cars.
The updated package retains the existing Dallara chassis but introduces redesigned front and rear wings to reduce aerodynamic disruption and allow drivers to follow competitors more closely.
Furthermore, the car will feature an onboard starter system, giving drivers the ability to restart their engines independently after certain stalls or spins.
The championship will continue using the 3.4-litre turbocharged Mecachrome engine, alongside sustainable fuel supplied by Aramco and tyres from Pirelli.
These developments will require all 11 teams to adapt their technical preparations ahead of 2027.
However, the changes also provide LN4 Fusion with an opportunity to enter the championship at the beginning of a new technical cycle, rather than competing against established teams with several years of experience using an unchanged package.
The organisation must nevertheless establish its own engineering processes, develop an understanding of the revised machinery and prepare for the demands of competing across a full F2 season.
LN4 Fusion prepares for expanded 2027 F2 calendar
The team’s debut will also coincide with an expanded F2 calendar, featuring 14 rounds across four continents.
The championship will begin in Bahrain from 12–14 March before visiting Jeddah, Melbourne and Montreal during the opening part of the season. The European leg will subsequently feature established venues, including Monaco, Silverstone, Spielberg and Monza. Furthermore, Istanbul and Mexico City will join the calendar, introducing two additional destinations as F2 continues expanding its international presence. The season will conclude with consecutive events in Qatar and Abu Dhabi during December.
For LN4 Fusion, the international schedule will create additional operational challenges during its inaugural campaign, particularly as the team establishes its logistics, engineering processes and personnel structure.
Nevertheless, its experienced management team will provide an important foundation as it prepares for the demands of competing across multiple continents.
LN4 Fusion turns attention towards competitive 2027 debut
LN4 Fusion’s successful F2 application represents a significant achievement just two months after the organisation officially launched.
With entries secured across several junior racing championships, the team has taken important steps towards establishing the comprehensive development pathway outlined by Norris and Richards.
However, its immediate focus will now shift towards completing the preparations required for its first competitive season.
The organisation must finalise its F2 driver line-up, continue recruiting and developing its personnel, and establish the technical infrastructure needed to compete against experienced rivals.
Meanwhile, its F4, FREC and F3 programmes will provide additional opportunities to develop young drivers as the wider project continues expanding.
With an F2 entry secured through 2029, LN4 Fusion now has a long-term position at the highest level of junior single-seater competition.
The next challenge will be translating its ambitious development plans into competitive performances when the team makes its F2 debut in March 2027.
