A flurry of grid penalties saw a completely mixed-up grid for the 2027 F1 São Paulo GP, with only Lando Norris’ pole position being honoured from the qualifying result. The race itself promised to be a classic before the lights even went out. Rain was coming down and caught out world champion Kimi Antonelli en route to the grid. Valtteri Bottas’ car was stranded in the pits wit a technical issue. This meant only 21 drivers would take the standing start.
The race saw a hectic first phase where Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen made great progress, before the cross-over point to slicks arrived. It was then Antonelli making a few mistakes dropping him from the lead to fourth.
Verstappen takes a second stop for slicks, as do Norris and Hadjar a few laps later. Antonelli does as well eventually, despite the threat of rain in the closing stages.
And the rain does come. It prompts everyone to switch to the intermediates, but that comes to late for Hamilton who spins at the pit straight. Antonelli does go out of the way of Russell who is clearly quicker at the moment. In the end Norris is unbothered by all that is thrown at him, as he wins from Verstappen and Hadjar.
