Qualifying for round 20 of the 2026 F1 season has been completed at Interlagos for the São Paulo GP, view the full results here.
The three practice sessions saw the same top 3 but in a different order for each one. Lando Norris led in FP1, followed by Kimi Antonelli in FP2, and Max Verstappen joining in for the final one earlier today. All of them took place in dry conditions.
Behind them, George Russell and Oscar Piastri were not far away. Ferrari’s lack of straight-line speed was killing them in Sector 3 as Leclerc and Hamilton both looked competitive before the long run up the hill.
After a difficult Friday by their very high standards in 2026, Racing Bulls looked back ti their best in FP3. Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson were half a second clear of Gabriel Bortoleto in the midfield fight. In fact, they were ahead of Isack Hadjar as well.
Alpine looked to be next best, with Rafael Câmara outpacing Ollie Bearman in FP3 on debut as Haas tried to get out of Q1. Williams, Aston Martin and Cadillac looked like filling the six cars who would drop out at the end of the first segment.
Before qualifying, it was all about engine component penalties. Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Pérez were guaranteed back of the grid starts, with Charles Leclerc and George Russell dropping 10 and 5 places respectively from wherever they qualified.
Then, just before Q1 began, the rain massively intensified. The red flag had to be thrown because of the appalling conditions two minutes into it.
