The second session of the IndyCar weekend is in the books at Barber Motorsports Park, view the full report and results of FP2 below.

As the track slowly dried out, Colton Herta led the way after 10 minutes as he clocked a 1:09.155, leading Shwartzman and Abel by 0.9s. Kirkwood, Rasmussen, Ferrucci, Simpson, Daly, Robb and Ilott completed the top 10. Rinus VeeKay clocked a 1:08.785 to be the first below the 69s barrier.

A 1:08.556 from Louis Foster saw the British driver jump to P1 at the 20-minute mark, a couple of hundredths ahead of Scott McLaughlin. Ferrucci, VeeKay and DeFrancesco were the other drivers in the 1:08s.

AJ Foyt soon found themselves in 1st and 4th as David Malukas put half a scone into the field with a 1:08.166.

A red flag appeared with just under 20 minutes to go as Pato O’Ward crashed in the final corner. He lost the rear and found the tyre barrier. Amazingly he only ended up with front wing damage and some potential steering column problems as the AMR safety team pulled him out of the barriers to put him back on track.

However, that accident had nothing on what was to follow. Marcus Ericsson had a lucky escape. With the rain starting to fall in Birmingham again, the Swede lost the car through the high speed turns 11 and 12 section. The car almost flipped as he went through the gravel and grass at high speed. Fortunately it didn’t and he only ended up with a broken right front suspension.

The times remained the same as Malukas led Palou, Lundgaard, Power and Foster in IndyCar FP2 at Barber Motorsports Park.

Josef Newgarden never got a run on dry tyres as he had a MGU issue which requires changing.
