Friday’s qualifying session saw Dunne claiming pole by 0.003s, ahead of Martins and Fornaroli. Today, they lined up in this order, for the F2 Monaco Feature Race. Fornaroli was able to fight his way into the points in yesterday’s Sprint Race. Today he was be looking to maintain a podium at the very least.

With Monaco known for its challenges, especially in the aspect of overtaking, a good start is crucial if these three driver want to finish on the podium.

The race begins!

Before the race had even started, Montoya stalled on the beginning of the formation lap, which forced him into a pit lane start. As the race got underway, 10 cars piled up into turn 1 which brought out a red flag.

Martins and Dunne made original impact, before they were collected by many other drivers including Marti, Verschoor, Mini, Miyata, Esterson, Shields, Megeutounif and Cordeel. Without a full racing sector completed, it now goes back to a full rolling start.

The standing restart

After we had 7 DNFs by turn 1, we had to go back to a full rolling start. This saw the original starting grid resinstated, with the removal of the drivers who are out of the race. This will look like:

1 | Fornaroli

2 | Montoya

3 | Lindblad

4 | Crawford

5 | Browning

6 | Maini

7 | Durksen

8 | Goethe

9 | Stanek

10 | Cordeel

11 | Beganovic

12 | Shields

13 | Meguetounif

14 | Bennett

15 | Villagomez

The F2 Monaco Feature Race went green again, after two laps behind the safety car. Fornaroli got a great start yet again. Every car made it through Sainte Devote on the restart, the top three bunched up greatly.

Browning was under pressure from Maini through the Nouvelle Chicane, as Browning was unable to keep up with the group ahead. Durksen made contact with the wall at La Rascasse, which brought out another yellow flag. A virtual safety was brought out shortly after this incident.

Maini and Durksen were both noted for causing a collision in turn 17 – La Rascasse. As the Virtual Safety Car ended, Fornaroli maintained the lead of the F2 Monaco Feature Race. Montoya and Lindblad held onto tight to pace, and kept on the rear of Fornaroli.

Goethe was the first driver to pit, doing so on the conclusion on lap 6. Beganovic, Meguetounif, and Bennett all took their pit stop at the conclusion of lap 8. Shields was the next driver to pit, on the following lap.

The chaos continued, another safety car was released!

Bennett made his move on Shields into the Nouvelle Chicane, Meguetounif followed him through. Beganovic had a moment through Sainte Devote, touching the wall, before he met the wall at Casino, making him the 9th driver to DNF. A full safety car was brought out, which was a major benefit for the drivers with a remaining pit stop to complete.

Crawford, Maini, Stanek, Cordell, Villagomez, and Goethe all took this as their opportunity for their final mandatory pit stop. The leading drivers missed the pit lane, which put them in a tough spot. Fornaroli, Montoya, and Lindblad had no choice but to stop on the following lap, and did so.

Fornaroli maintained his standpoint on Lindblad and Montoya, although lost position to Crawford, while Montoya lost position to Lindblad. Meguetounif was awarded a 5s penalty after he sped in the pit lane. Lindblad was also noted for speeding in the pit lane, and was awarded a 5s penalty.

The Safety Car soon turned into a red flag, and with only 5 minutes left of the race, the race was concluded there. This saw an unexpected win from Crawford, with the podium complete by Fornaroli, and Montoya.
