BWT Alpine F1 Team has announced that the team has appointed Steve Nielsen as Managing Director alongside other senior hires to key positions in the F1 team, with Kris Midgley also joining.

In the team statement launched on Friday, BWT Alpine Formula One Team stated that Steve Nielsen will start his role in September ahead of the 2025 F1 Italian Grand Prix weekend in Monza. He will oversee the day-to-day running of the French team in Enstone under the leadership of Flavio Baritone. A longtime acquaintance of Nielsen.

Return to Enstone

This career move marks Steve Nielsen’s return to Enstone, the same team where he made a name for himself during his stints with Benetton and Renault in the early 2000s. This includes his time as Sporting Director for Renault in 2005 and 2006 when the team won the Drivers’ Championship in both seasons with Fernando Alonso.

Prior to his appointment with Alpine in September, Steve Nielsen was the Chief Motorsport Operations Officer, Sporting, at commercial rights holder F1. The British engineer has also worked with many other F1 teams like Tyrell, Toro Rosso and Williams Racing and held roles with the FIA. Most notably, Nielsen played an important role in the return to racing in 2020 during the pandemic.

Nielsen now enters Alpine with years of experience under his belt from his years in F1 managing both teams and racing operation.

Key hires at BWT Alpine Formula One Team

Alpine has also confirmed many other recent additions to the team in both the technical and business sectors of the team.

Kris Midgley was recently appointed as Head of Aerodynamic Development and will report to Executive Technical Director David Sanchez. Midgley appointment is also a return to Enstone, having worked at Enstone from 2007 to 2013. After which he made a move to Scuderia Ferrari where he took on the role of Principal Aerodynamicist. This is a significant and promising appointment for Alpine as the sport moves into the new regulation era in 2026.

Another key appointment is Guy Martin as Global Marketing Director. Martin who previously worked under Racing Bull, was a driving force of the team’s sponsorship and partnership strategy. Having lead rights-holder negotiations, on-site activation and operations delivery. He was also responsible for the commercialisation for properties such as the Racing Bulls Team, FIFA, the Olympic Games, NFL International, Disney, Africa Cup of Nations, and the FIA Formula E Championship. Guy will introduce new entertainment verticals to BWT Alpine Formula One as well as drive both fan and customers engagement. Allowing the team to attract more sponsorship and engagement to grow.
