Long time Test and Development driver Joel Eriksson will compete for Envision Racing in the upcoming Season 12 of Formula E. The 27-years old has signed a multi year deal with the Silverstone-based racing team, which will see him transition from Gen3vo cars now in use to the innovative Gen4 contenders, set to debut in the 2026-2027 season.

A well-known team member

The Swede is a versatile driver, who has achieved race wins in multiple championship such as DTM, FIA Formula 3 European Championship and Nürburgring Endurance Series. His full time Formula E contract has been a long time coming. In fact, Eriksson ‘s first ever electric racing experience had taken place in the 2018 Rookie Test with Envision Racing , with him returning for the 2020 edition for Dragon Racing Formula E .

Following his second testing appearance, he signed with the American team, taking up the role of Test and Reserve Driver. Eriksson, in fact, replaced Nico Muller for eight races of the 2020-2021 season, achieving a best finish of P10. Afterwards, he made his official racing debut for his new full time team in thee 2023-2024 season, driving alongside Paul Aron in the Berlin E-Prix double header and raking up a positive P9.

Eriksson’s announcements comes a week after the contract renewal of Envision Racing ‘s latest race winner in Formula E Sebastien Buemi, with the British team embracing stability during the generation transition.

A great feeling for Eriksson

The just-signed driver expressed his satisfaction with his new contract and role at the team-.

“I am delighted to have signed with Envision Racing. It is a huge moment in my career and one that I have been working towards for a while. I am very thankful to the team for their trust. I can’t wait to get started for my first full season of Formula E.”

Envision Racing Managing Director Sylvain Filippi praised Eriksson and his dedication to achieving this goal.

“We are very excited to announce Joel as our newest driver. We have known Joel for a number of years now, going back to his first ever Formula E test with us, and racing for us last season in Berlin.

“On both occasions he proved to us how talented he is and adapted very quickly to the Formula E style of racing in Berlin, delivering points on debut. With Joel’s extensive knowledge and experience working on the simulator with Jaguar, we are confident that he will deliver for us, and we will be doing all we can to help him hit the ground running.”

CEO Franz Jung saluted the signing as well, wishing him th best for his future with the team.
