Citroën Racing has officially confirmed its entry into the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, joining the grid for Season 12 in 2025/2026. This marks a long-awaited return to motor racing as a factory team since leaving the World Rally Championship in 2019. The French brand will take over the grid slot previously held by Maserati MSG Racing.

Historic success, modern ambition

Citroën has enjoyed decades of success across multiple motorsport disciplines, including nine WRC drivers’ titles and eight WRC manufacturers’ crowns. As well as three FIA World Touring Car Championship Teams’ victories, and more FIA Cross-Country Rally World Cup triumphs.

Now, the brand will compete on a very different stage: all-electric street racing in some of the world’s most iconic city centres. In their words, Formula E represents “a new challenge” and “an electric, innovative and passionate adventure that embodies our values and our vision for the mobility of tomorrow.”

Citroën embraces electric future

Citroën Racing emphasized that it closely aligned its return to motorsport with the values of Formula E. The fully electric championship focuses on sustainability and advanced technology, making it an ideal platform for Citroën. It also allows the brand to showcase its vision for the future of mobility.

In their announcement, the team stated, “Citroën is returning to motorsport, an arena that shaped its history and legend – motorsport in its most visionary form: an 100% electric, responsible and committed competition with popular races in the heart of cities, a young, committed, connected audience and a technological, international showcase for the future of mobility.”

Season 12 preparation

Ahead of the 2025/2026 Formula E season, Citroën Racing will participate in pre-season testing at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo from 27-30 October. Additionally, the team will also join the Women’s Test on October 31st, providing an early opportunity to assess its all-electric racing package.

All eyes will be on Citroën Racing as the team reveals its driver line up ahead of its debut in São Paulo.
