The 2025 GB3 Championship heads to the legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit this weekend (22–24 August) for its only visit to Kent in 2025. A 21-car field will take on one of motorsport’s most iconic layouts across three races, in what promises to be a pivotal round in the battle for the title.

An action-packed weekend

Action begins on Friday on the shorter Indy layout, with three 25-minute test sessions giving drivers the chance to familiarise themselves with the track. During the morning and afternoon, three separate 25-minute test sessions will allow them to adapt to the circuit, gather valuable data, and refine their set-ups. By the close of play on Friday, teams should therefore have a clearer sense of their performance baselines.

From Saturday onwards, the focus will shift firmly to the full Grand Prix circuit. Indeed, the day starts with a short but critical free practice session at 09.00, which will help drivers re-acclimatise to the longer, more challenging layout. Soon afterwards, attention will turn to qualifying, which unfolds across two sessions at 11.05 and 11.25. The results from these runs will prove decisive, as they establish the starting grids for both race one and race two. Later in the afternoon, the weekend’s opening contest takes place at 14.45, accompanied by a full live stream that begins 20 minutes beforehand.

On Sunday, the drama will intensify further. Race two begins at 11.30, utilising the grid order from the second qualifying session. Then, the weekend culminates at 16.10 with the reversed-grid finale, in which the top 12 from the combined qualifying results line up in reverse order. Consequently, the final race often provides the most unpredictable action, offering drivers further chances to disrupt the pecking order and gain crucial championship points.

The Championship battle

The season reaches its three-quarter stage at Brands Hatch, with nine different race winners already from the opening 15 rounds, showcasing the competitiveness of the grid. Leading the standings is Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Ninovic, who has collected four victories at Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps, the Hungaroring and Silverstone. The Australian holds a 39-point cushion over his nearest challenger and looks to extend his advantage on one of the toughest tracks of the year.

Fellow Australian Patrick Heuzenroeder lies second for Xcel Motorsport, having combined a race win with consistent podiums to keep the pressure on Ninovic. Another countryman, Gianmarco Pradel, sits close behind after victories at the Hungaroring and Silverstone, ensuring Rodin Motorsport has two drivers firmly in the title picture.

Contenders in pursuit

Beyond the top three, several drivers look capable of breaking into the championship fight. Hitech TGR’s Keanu Al Azhari arrives at Brands Hatch fresh from his maiden win at Silverstone, following a run of podiums that underline his momentum. Britain’s Will Macintyre continues to lead the domestic challenge, with an early-season win keeping him within striking distance. Hitech’s Deagen Fairclough showed renewed speed at Silverstone, while JHR’s Noah Lisle remains firmly in the hunt after three podium finishes so far.

Reza Seewooruthun has emerged as a serious threat too, with the Argenti with Prema driver delivering a dominant win at the Hungaroring. His teammate Lucas Fluxa is just behind, while JHR’s Kai Daryanani also stays in contention and brings the added boost of past success at Brands Hatch, where he triumphed in GB4.

Returnees and rising stars

This weekend’s entry also features several high-profile returnees. Hillspeed’s Freddie Slater, the current Formula Regional European Championship leader, rejoins the grid after already taking three GB3 wins from just six starts, including a dramatic Spa victory from 23rd on the grid. Rodin’s Abbi Pulling returns in strong form after her Silverstone resurgence, while teammate Kanato Le is back following his Spa triumph.

Hitech’s Nikita Johnson makes his comeback following his FIA F3 debut, while Hillspeed’s Hiyu Yamakoshi and VRD’s Enzo Tarnvanichkul also rejoin, with the latter immediately back in the top 10 at Silverstone. Elite Motorsport continues with both Flynn Jackes, who is edging closer to a first podium, and Bianca Bustamante, who has shown marked progress across the year. Completing the grid are Mexican brothers Patricio and Rodrigo Gonzalez, who made their debuts last time out with VRD Racing and now commit to the remainder of the season.

What’s at stake?

This weekend marks the first appearance of the new Tatuus MSV GB3-025 on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, a track renowned for its fast, flowing corners and punishing demands on driver precision. With nine races left in the season, every point is crucial, and the double qualifying format combined with the reversed-grid finale ensures that consistency and adaptability will be just as important as outright pace. The Brands Hatch round often proves decisive, and with so many potential winners in the field, the battle for supremacy is wide open.
