AIX Racing have confirmed that Cian Shields will remain with the team for a second season in the 2026 FIA F2 Championship. The 20-year-old, currently in the midst of a difficult rookie campaign, will return in 2026 with hopes of turning lessons into results.
Learning through a tough rookie year
So far in 2025, Shields has struggled to make a significant impact on the F2 standings. With two rounds to go, he currently sits 22nd in the Drivers’ Championship, having yet to score a point. His best result came at the Imola Feature Race, where he narrowly missed the top ten with a P11 finish.
Nevertheless, the season has not been without its positives. Throughout the year, Shields has gained valuable experience in racecraft, tyre management, and car development—skills that often take time to refine at this level. While the results have been disappointing, the groundwork has been laid for a stronger second season.
AIX Racing stand by their driver
Despite the challenges, AIX Racing remain fully behind their young talent. The team see Shields not just as a driver with potential, but as someone who has shown resilience and a willingness to grow. Team Principal Morne Reinecke expressed confidence in the renewed partnership.
“We are excited to continue with Cian for the 2026 FIA Formula 2 season,” said Reinecke. “The 2025 season has been challenging for him and the team, but we strongly believe in his talent and determination. With the team’s full backing and support, we are confident that we can create the right environment for Cian to take the next step forward; the step that both he and the team are striving for.”
Shields focused on progress
Meanwhile, Shields believes that a year of hard-earned experience will pay off. Although 2025 has tested his abilities, he remains upbeat about what lies ahead.
“I’m happy to continue with AIX Racing for another season in FIA Formula 2,” said Shields. “This year had its challenges, but I’ve taken a lot of lessons from it and I feel ready to come back stronger. With the experience we’ve built together, I’m confident we can take a big step forward and fight for the results we want.”
