Rodin Motorsport’s Alex Ninovic once again proved why he is the 2025 GB3 Champion, storming to both pole positions at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The Australian driver delivered under pressure, mastering both sessions to claim his ninth and tenth poles of the season. His consistency and precision confirmed his dominance and demonstrated the strength of both driver and team.

Reflecting on his achievement, Ninovic spoke about how remarkable his season has been and how far the team has come.

“It’s pretty amazing, to get 10 pole positions this season has been extraordinary. I couldn’t have thought that we were going to get that at the start of this season, no chance.”

He continued by explaining what the performance reveals about his connection with the car and his consistency across all circuits.

“But it just shows that the pace of myself and the car has been unstoppable really from the get go. It just shows that I’m really comfortable with the car at any track.”

This confidence has been evident throughout his campaign, and Monza was no exception. His ability to read conditions and maximise performance reflected both experience and adaptability, two traits that have defined his 2024 success.

Strategy and slipstream mastery

Ninovic then delved into the finer details of how strategy played a decisive role. Monza’s long straights make the slipstream effect crucial, and the champion described how he approached both sessions differently to overcome the challenge.

“In the two Qualifying sessions the slipstream was always going to be the make or break really for being at the front. So the first one was a bit challenging. After we left the pit lane I found myself at the front straight away so I didn’t have anything to go off. And we did lack a few tenths here and there because of that, but then the red flag came out and there was four minutes to go.”

Red flags provided additional opportunity

Those red flags reset the order and provided a rare opportunity. Ninovic explained how he made the most of it, turning a difficult session into one of his best laps of the year.

“We managed to slide back out and get in a bit of a train there and managed on my first push lap after the red flag to go to pole, which was nice. So we bagged that one and in the second one, we had a different tactic where we drove through the pit lane after we got our tyres up to temperature, and that allowed a lot of the cars to go past so we could hopefully train onto the back of them.”

Despite executing a well-thought-out plan, he admitted that the second approach was not perfect.

“We managed to get a few tows here and there but nothing serious, so we probably misjudged that slightly but it still gave us just enough to clinch the pole.”

Each part of his strategy showed how adaptable and calm he remained. Even with the unpredictability of Monza’s qualifying battles, Ninovic found enough precision to stay ahead. Consequently, his approach paid off, giving Ninovic control of the Race 1 and 2 grid for the final weekend of the 2025 GB3 season in Monza.

Confidence for the races ahead

With both poles secured, Ninovic shifted focus towards the upcoming races. Confident in both pace and preparation, he expressed optimism but also a realistic understanding of Monza’s potential for unpredictability.

“We will see what happens [in the race]. I feel really comfortable with the car in the race conditions, so I’m hoping to get away at the start and hopefully open up a gap.”

He acknowledged that Monza’s nature means surprises are always possible, but his calm tone reflected assurance in his setup and performance.

“But you never know what can happen with safety cars and all that, but I think we have the pace to possibly pull clear.”

This composed mindset has been a hallmark of Ninovic’s year. With two final races ahead, he aims to complete a near-perfect season, showcasing both maturity and speed.
