The first racing weekend of the 2025-2026 Formula E season is about to begin, and Mahindra Racing is looking forward to return on the streets of São Paulo for the E-Prix. The Indian outlet had a very successful past season, with a final fourth place in the teams’standings and a total of five podiums split between drivers Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara.
The reconfirmed driver duo has also impressed in the Valencia Pre-Season Testing, where Mortara set the fastest lap time of the entire testing time allotted and won the race simulation.
Mahindra’s De Vries discusses the Formula E São Paulo E-Prix
The former champion is beginning his third season with the Indian team, and is also glad to finally return on track in a competitive session, as he explained.
“I’m really looking forward to starting the new season this weekend in São Paulo. Pre-season testing was certainly encouraging for us as a team, but it’s important we keep our focus on executing a strong weekend and starting the season as we mean to go on.”
The former F1 driver knows that his Mahindra M12Electro has the potential to perform very well in the upcoming Season 12, and believes that the Formula E São Paulo E-Prix might be a great first opportunity to find out more about the level of the grid.
“We know as a team, we have made plenty of steps forward with our car and as a group, now it’s about seeing what the competition has done, and where we stack up against them.”
“São Paulo always brings a passionate, knowledgeable local crowd, and it’s one of the best atmospheres of the season, so it’s great to kick off the season there.”
Mortara sets high personal target
Brazil had signalled the beginning of a new era for Mahindra Racing last year, with a double points finish on the inaugural round of Season 11. Mortara had achieved a very impressive P5, and he hopes to be able to perform on the same level, if not even better, in the upcoming weekend.
“I’m excited to get to Brazil and get the new season underway. As a team, we’ve had a productive winter break, with no surprises, in terms of our software and the developments we’ve made, so we should be going to São Paulo with a good level of familiarity with our package.”
Building off on his very strong November testing sessions, Mortara believes he can achieve positive results in the final year before the Gen4 debut.
“Historically, I’ve had good performances at this track in the past, especially in qualifying, and last year we were able to finish in the top five – hopefully this year, it can be even better and we can start the season on a good result.”
