“It’s not fully on the forefront of our minds”: Hitech focused on strong performance, rather than title fight, in 2025 F2 Abu Dhabi season finale

Formula 2 approaches its 2025 season finale in Abu Dhabi with three teams still in contention for the 2025 F2 Constructors Championship—one of which is Hitech TGR. After a year of consistent performance and steady progress, the team arrives at Yas Marina sitting second in the standings on 261 points, 35 behind leaders Invicta Racing.

Ahead of the decisive weekend, Hitech TGR Team Manager Clive Hatton reflected on the team’s mindset, momentum, and growth since joining the championship in 2019.

Maximising points above all else

Hitech enters Abu Dhabi confident that it can overturn the deficit and emerge as Constructors’ Champions. Still, Hatton emphasises that the team is not letting the standings dictate their approach. Instead, the focus remains on preparation, execution, and extracting every point possible from the weekend.

“We are feeling pretty good. It’s one of those things that at every round you try to put the best car down, and try to get the most number of points. So it’s not fully on the forefront of our minds, it’s in the background, so we will see what happens on track.”

The right momentum moving forward

Both Hitech drivers, Dino Beganovic and Luke Browning, finished in the points during the Qatar Feature Race with P9 and P10 respectively. While the team believes an even stronger result was possible—had the Safety Car not appeared at the worst possible moment—Qatar reaffirmed the speed and upward trajectory they bring into Abu Dhabi.

Hatton sees this momentum as a crucial asset heading into Qualifying, where lap times are expected to be exceptionally tight.

“You can see the momentum has been up there for us. It was just tricky in that Feature Race in Qatar, the pace was there and the pace was good and then that Safety Car came out at the wrong time. A couple of laps later and it would have been perfect, but that’s F2, it’s a roll of the dice sometimes.”

“Paul Aron got on well here last year, and as well both these drivers have driven here before for different teams and also with us at the post-season testing. But everyone is in that same position as well, so I reckon lap times will be tight.”

The plan for the weekend: win

Although Hitech is no longer in contention for the Drivers’ Championship, there is still plenty at stake for both drivers. Browning aims to secure the Vice-Champion position, while Beganovic focuses on delivering maximum points to fuel Hitech’s Constructors’ campaign.

“The drivers feel good. For Luke [Browning], obviously with Fornaroli now Champion, second is up for grabs for him and for Dino [Beganovic] it’s to get every point we can.”

With five seasons already under its belt since joining Formula 2 in 2020, the team’s ambitions are bigger than ever. Winning the Constructors’ title, Hatton says, would be a defining achievement.

“It would be great for us to win it. Us as Hitech we started F2 in 2019, we have always kind of been up there but to win it, it would show everyone’s hard work has paid off.”
